Extra large print books

Amazon has a number of Kindle books that are labeled "extra large print". I can understand how this would be helpful in DTBs, but what is the purpose in Kindle books where you can change the font size anyway.

I think that if it is Large print to begin with, then the larger Kindle fonts go even larger. . . so it could be good for some folks for whom "normal" font size 6 is still not big enough.

I heard them mentioned a few times over on the amazon boards, and IIRC size 1 in the ELPs is about the same as size 6 in a standard kindle book.
My vision is so bad that the largest font on the Kindle is still blurred. I have to wear contacts or glasses to do anything so it is not an issue for me. I assume that there are people who can see clearly with glasses or contacts or nothing at all but need a larger font on the Kindle to read.
I've downloaded several samples of the "large print" versions of Kindle books, and found that the largest font is no larger than the largest one on a standard Kindle book, but that the other, smaller sizes are larger than standard.

This makes no sense at all to me.

The thing that is starting to irritate me is that the font is not the same size in all of the books I have on the Kindle. Mind you, the goofy ones are books that did not come from Amazon. With the Kindle, I go back and forth between books, and I am constantly having to change the font size when I open a different ebook.

Thank goodness. I thought i was losing my mind. Again.

I was wondering what was going on ... thanks for clearing that up. In some future update, I'd love to have Kindle remember the font size that's been set for a particular book. I read at a larger font size than my husband and, although we tend to read different books on Kindle, I always have to reset the font when it's my turn with Cynnau. But, being able to adjust the font size is one of the best features IMO.

What drives me nuts is that there are several books that I've been waiting for in regular Kindle editions which just came out in the large print kindle format but still aren't available in the regular kindle format!!

Come on are you trying to tease me?
