I'm writing a course for a company. They do online training, and are affiliated with the University of Cape Town.
I want to know what the fair use situation is with including images. The course is an "Introduction to Graphic Design" course. I would, for example, like to include images of iconic designs in (let's say) the "history of design" section. Or examples of an individual designer's work in the "influential designers" chapter.
So far I've managed to find public domain images, but most of the modern images are (of course) not in the public domain.
It's not always possible to get permission for using these images, or even to find out who I should approach.
Is there such a thing as "fair use" for educational purposes?
