Ahhhhh!! Is that what that is along the very bottom of the Kindle screen? I thought it was battery power used!

I have, that one just didnt register with me. It's very similar to the battery usage display in other devices.

And as a technical writer by trade, I can tell you that no one reads the user guides! (When I read the Kindle one, I mostly critiqued it, lol)

Some do. I even sit down and read through the owner's manual for cars before I buy them.

But that's just me.
