"I enjoyed the first two Burnside mysteries but BUBBLE SCREEN is the best one yet. The author really brings the area to life with colorful descriptions, giving a excellent sense of time and place for the setting of this novel. The new cast of characters are engaging as is his pretty side kick and girl friend, Gail Pepper. I was kept guessing "who dun it" until the end." -- Amazon reviewer

A series of thefts are plaguing a local warehouse and the owner brings in Burnside to find out who's behind it. The owner, a big donor to Burnside's alma mater, USC, has an idea of who the culprit is. But theft quickly turns to murder and Burnside is plunged into an investigation where the tentacles expand well beyond a simple case of larceny.

The story leads Burnside onto the trail of people who have only one purpose in life, that being the pursuit of money. And they will do anything to acquire money and use any means necessary to keep it. And through it all, Burnside also has to come to grips with his relationship with his girlfriend Gail Pepper, and make a life altering decision about his future.

Interweaving the world of business with the world of college football, Bubble Screen is set in the heart of Los Angeles, and is the third novel in the Burnside series. It is a marvelous continuation of David Chill's first two novels, Post Pattern and Fade Route, yet this story also works exceptionally well as a standalone novel. Bubble Screen is a captivating murder mystery that combines fascinating characters, a fast moving story line, and an explosive ending that is both dramatic and unexpected.

Off the Reservation: A Novel, by Glen Merzer. (Still 0.99?)

"This book will make you laugh throughout. From the manner in which his campaign is funded to his unwillingness to speak ill of his opponents, it is so refreshing. The speech with "Probably Not" echoing throughout the crowd in answer to his statements is hilarious. The addition of the pundits from the major networks made me laugh. The tidbits of information that are discerned as breaking news are mind boggling. This is an outstanding and different glimpse into a race for President. Refreshing read with a cast of characters that makes one wish this was reality and not fiction." -- Amazon reviewer

In a narrative rich in humor and uproarious dialogue, Off the Reservation explores modern presidential politics and whether honesty can find a place within it. Congressman Evan Gorgoni of Bloomington, IN, has served eight terms in a dysfunctional Congress and reached his limits of frustration. A medical event brings on the epiphany that there is no point in continuing to serve. But his frank expression, on Meet the Press, of his rationale for ending his political career is met with the unbidden call that he seek the White House-an unlikely destination for a vegan Congressman with a disdain for political posturing.

Featuring 20 vegan recipes and a solution to America's Electoral College problem, Off the Reservation is an original take on the art of the possible.

Love Handles (A Romantic Comedy) (Oakland Hills Book 1), by Gretchen Galway. (Still free?)

"The plot has some twists at the end, one of which I didn't see coming. Where Love Handles shines, though, is in the characters, from Liam's friendly mother to his slacker sister and his shy brother, then through Beverly's obnoxiously-self-centered mom, kid sister, and a bunch of other characters at the fitness company and beyond. If you are looking for a great beach read, or just a nice, well-developed novel with a strong romance to enjoy during an afternoon or on vacation, then Love Handles is a contender. The characters stick with me (especially Liam) and this is one book I plan to read again." -- Amazon reviewer

When a couch potato inherits a fitnesswear company in San Francisco, sparks fly with her arrogant, Olympic medalist vice president.

The world of fitness apparel isn't ready for Beverly Lewis. She hates the gym, is nice to everybody, and shops at Ross Dress for Less. When she's not teaching preschool, she's wearing yoga pants . . . to nap in. So when she inherits her estranged grandfather's fitnesswear company in San Francisco, nobody expects her to keep it. Fite Fitness needs a heartless suit to save it from bankruptcy, not a thirty-year-old woman who cries when her students leave for kindergarten.

Someone like Liam Johnson. A former Olympic swimmer, Liam is Fite's executive vice president. Unlike Bev, he's devoted his life to Fite's success. Managing one little preschool teacher-and his attraction to her-shouldn't be an issue. Right?

But Bev's tired of being underpaid and underrated, and refuses to step aside as an obedient figurehead. To everyone's shock and horror, she moves up to San Francisco, sets up an office, and dives into the business. Nothing-not mockery, not exercise, not sabotage, not a disastrously hot night with her aggravating VP-is going to scare her away.

As Liam realizes she's tougher than she looks, he discovers that losing Fite might not be nearly as bad as losing her . . .

A story about the pursuit of love, happiness, and the perfect yoga pants, Love Handles will speak to anyone who's ever had to face what scares her most.
