Missing Mona: A Tommy Cuda Mystery, by Joe Klingler. (Still 0.99?)

"OMG, WOW, is all I can say. Loved this book and this character. Such a good boy trying his darnedest to be a bad boy! All the twist and turns, and interesting characters in this book had my head spinning but in a good way. Wish I could have lied this tale. So much fun! Loved all the funky and weird characters. Just wished one thing though. Hope Tommy took Lizz for the ride of her life, and wish I could have read about it. Yummy!!!" -- Amazon Reviewer

Tommy has boomeranged back to his parents residence and a dead-end job after too many years in college. As he looks squarely at his next decade of life his smartphone convinces him the time is ripe for a change. A gift from his grandfather provides the means, so he embarks on the path of blues artists and beatniks before him-and hits the road.
He immediately meets a damsel in hitchhiking distress who says her name is Mona. Her presence persuades him that the bright lights and dark clubs of Chicago might be his kind of town. So on a summer Saturday night they settle into a fancy hotel overlooking the beaches of Lake Michigan.
On Sunday...Mona disappears.
But she leaves behind more than a sweet memory that involves Tommy in a brand new cash flow problem he never imagined. While trying to sort out how to stay on the right side of the law and get back on the road, he meets a young criminologist who helps him, a DJ who doesn't, and a librarian who teaches him about the city, women, and the art of the makeover. After truth and lies are stirred like a blue martini, being assaulted by a pink monkey, and witnessing a drive-by shooting that drowns a Ferrari-Tommy is desperate to help Mona.
If he can find her.

Six Points of Light:Hook's Origin, by Kalynn Bayron. (Still free?)

"Peter Pan has always been one of my favorite stories and I think that it is pure genius to put together a back-story on that timeless tale that gives us a very in depth look at how Peter and Captain Hook came to be who they are. "Six Points of Light" is the story of two youngsters, James and Peter, who meet in an orphanage and a course is charted that takes them to another world. The most interesting and endearing aspect of this read is that the tables are turned on everything you thought you knew about these characters. An incredibly well-written novel that contains one of the most refreshingly original story lines I have come across in a long time." -- Amazon Reviewer

St. Catherine's is a place for misfits, for the forgotten; it is also the only place fifteen-year-old James Cook has ever known. Abandoned on the front steps as an infant James is raised by Sister Maddie who loves him like the mother he never knew. James possesses a genius level intellect and a kind heart but his constant state of ill health has meant that he has never had an invitation to leave the orphanage and join a family.
One evening, a young boy is delivered to St. Catherine's in the arms of his distraught mother. In her dying moments she calls out to her son the words that will set James and the young boy on a collision course with destiny, 'Never grow up Peter.' As James and Peter forge a seemingly unbreakable bond, James learns that his new friend is not who he appears to be. Peter is manipulative, mischievous and dangerous. As it turns out Peter is also harboring a secret whose repercussions will echo through time and pierce the veil that separates reality from make believe.
Before he was Captain Hook, he was simply James, and as it turns out, he was not such a dastardly villain after all. Join some of the most beloved characters in literature as their roots are laid bare and the truth of their humble beginnings is revealed.

Starseers: Fallen Empire, Book 3, by Lindsay Buroker. (Still 3.99?)

"I loved book 2 even more than book 1 … and I truly think that Starseers (book 3) has topped them as far as storyline goes. Lindsay keeps this group moving, which means we get to watch the mayhem in a variety of locales - from the library, to space, to the hidden home of the enigmatic Starseers. A lot more light has been shed on the characters, including Dr. Dominguez and his orb." -- Amazon Reviewer

The mysterious and powerful Starseers have Captain Alisa Marchenko's daughter, and she will do whatever she must to get her back, even if it means traveling to their stronghold and confronting them personally. Unfortunately, her strongest ally, the cyborg Leonidas, may become a liability since the cyborgs and the Starseers have a long history of hating each other. It doesn't help that Leonidas and Dr. Dominguez have a mission of their own, one that could jeopardize all that Alisa is fighting for.
