The Sun, the Moon, and Maybe the Trains, by Rodney Jones. (Still free?)

I read this highly-rated book recently and can personally vouch for it being an engaging, well-written story. Rodney Jones pulls you skillfully into this time-travel story of young love between an 1870s-era boy and a very modern teenage girl. Normally $4.99, but you can get your copy free today!

"The relationship between Tess and John was so sweet and innocent, John was a proper gentleman and he did make me laugh especially when Tess came to him with her legs bare and SHAVED! Of course people in 1875 covered themselves up and never shaved their legs. I could see that a love would blossom between them but wondered how because they were both from different times but Tess manages to travel into 1875 to warn John of a fire in Greendale, but she can't pass back to her own time. There were tense times in the book, some sadness, some delight, and some bits has me thinking 'oh my god nooo'. I really enjoyed the book and could not put it down. A fantastic read and very well written." -- Amazon reviewer

John Bartley's days are filled with working in the mill or the garden, and he can't wait to see Zella at the next barn dance. But when he stumbles through a hidden portal in the forest, everything he's ever known falls behind him.

A hundred and thirty-four years behind, to be exact.

Tess can't quite believe John's tale of time travel. Does he really not know what a cell phone is? A car? Indoor plumbing? To convince the girl he's swiftly falling for that he's not crazy, John must delve into Tess's history-his future-and solve the mystery of his hometown's demise.
But when they learn its fate, each faces a wrenching choice. Save their love or save the past?

Claude Bouchard guides you step by step through a seamy, dangerous world, while never allowing you to lose hope. As others have said, the ending is excellent." -- Amazon reviewer

Collapse (New America-Book One), by Richard Stephenson. (Still free?)

This political thriller is free today, and has over 80 five-star reviews.

"Author Richard Stephenson has hit one out of the park with his novel, Collapse. Watch the America we know literally collapse under the weight of natural disasters, rouge nations and damned scary power-hungry politicians. To say that the premise of the novel is believable would be an understatement. Although it takes place in 2027, there is not reason that most of this couldn't happen in the next six months. Keeping that thought in the back of my mind helped to propel me through reading this book in just a few sittings." -- Amazon reviewer

BOOK ONE in the NEW AMERICA series.

America is falling, ready to join the Roman Empire as a distant memory in the annals of history. The year is 2027. Tired and desperate, the American people are deep in the middle of The Second Great Depression. The Florida coastline is in ruins from the most powerful hurricane on record; a second just like it is bearing down on the state of Texas. For the first time in history, the Middle East has united as one and amassed the most formidable army the world has seen since the Third Reich. A hidden army of terrorists is on American soil. This is the story of three men: Howard Beck, the world's richest man, also diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. Richard Dupree, ex-Navy SEAL turned escaped convict. Maxwell Harris, a crippled, burned out Chief of Police of a small Texas town. At first they must fight for their own survival against impossible odds. Finally, the three men must band together to save their beloved country from collapse.

BOOK TWO in the New America series, entitled "Resistance" is slated for a summer 2013 release. Sneak peek is available now.

High Desert Haven (The Shepherd's Heart), by Lynnette Bonner. (Still free?)

This highly-rated Christian historical romance is free today!

"I really enjoyed this story about Nicki and Jason, their struggles, their triumphs and their desire to serve God. The story moved along well and kept me wondering what was going to happen in the end. Not just with Nicki and Jason, which since it's their story is fairly predictable how they will end up, but there were other characters that were interesting to watch." -- Amazon reviewer

Kaleidoscope World, by Tomica Scavina. (Still free?)

Part fantasy, part mystery, this novel has earned warm praise from its readers, and is yours free today.

"It is a novel of romance and adventure, with a murder and even ghosts. But the best part is the heroine, Dahlia. Instead of succumbing to her demons she takes them head on. She leaves NY, an alcoholic mother, and a series of disastrous sex buddies, and goes to Barcelona to the apartment, long abandoned, where she spent her earliest years and where her father was killed. Her creativity, humor and resourcefulness are what kept me reading. I enjoyed the flashes of Barcelona and the Croatian coast, but most of all I liked the exploration of Dahlia's mind, her spirit of adventure and her stick-to-it-iveness when faced by trouble and adversity." -- Amazon reviewer

A collector of kaleidoscopes and lousy relationships, Dahlia Kasper leaves her possessive alcoholic mother and moves from New York to Barcelona. In search of lost bits of her childhood, she starts living in an apartment where her father was murdered when she was four. As soon as she enters the apartment, strange things begin to happen.

Her favorite kaleidoscope becomes a gateway to another dimension where she encounters a ghost of a famous physicist from the 19th century who tries to persuade her that reality is like a moth-eaten sweater - full of holes. He needs her to help him plug up these holes and save the world from vanishing, while the only thing Dahlia really wants to save is her sanity.

This is just a part of Dahlia's problems. An elderly cello-playing neighbor turns her emotional world upside down and her longing for lost home takes her further than she ever imagined she could go. To collect all the scattered kaleidoscope-bits of her life together, Dahlia needs to go through an intense inner transformation that takes courage and a sharp sense of humor.

Pain and Gain-The Untold True Story, by Marc Schiller. (Still free?)

You may have heard of this upcoming Mark Wahlberg film. Here's the memoir of one of the victims of the Sun Gym gang. Free today!

"This first-hand account of the pain that Marc Schiller endured for the personal gain of the grisly Sun Gym gang is riveting. Through his frank narrative, Schiller takes the reader on a grim and unbelievable ride through "hotel hell" and beyond. A great read and one that you won't forget! P.S. Though the film, Pain & Gain, will certainly be entertaining, there is no doubt that the true story behind Hollywood's fictionalized version will be the most compelling for fans." -- Amazon reviewer

This is the untold true story of one citizen's pointless torture and month-long captivity. The story, formerly mistold if not utterly overlooked, has been made into a feature film. Even as a dark comedy, there is little amusement to be found in human suffering. The sick and twisted minds of Mr. Schiller's captors would be fodder for the Darwin Awards if the results were not so alarmingly inhumane. Physical, mental and emotional torture, as well as sensory deprivation and starvation, the prisoner of war-like conditions differed only in the fact that Mr. Schiller was completely alone during his extended stay at the warehouse he refers to as Hotel Hell. An early victim of identity theft in the years following Hurricane Andrew in Miami, Mr. Schiller chronicles his story in tortuous detail. His humiliation, pain and suffering at the hands of these perverted social misfits is a shocking revelation.
What is it like to be imprisoned in near dungeon-like conditions? All this mayhem on American soil toward the end of the last millennium.
Greed, lust for power and the desire to inflict pain and misery were the apparent motivating forces behind this gruesome incident.
Truly a harrowing tale and one that you won't soon forget.
