Q: So, what prompted you to write the Complicated Creatures series?
A: It's simple, really. I'm a huge fan of romance, romantic suspense and action thrillers, and I felt there was something really missing in combining these genres. I also wanted to write a really strong female protagonist who, while impressive, is incredibly relatable, smart, self-reliant and gutsy.
Q: Who or what inspired the lead character, Samantha Wyatt?
A: Honestly, I just took what I liked most about the male leads in some of my favorite vigilante justice action thriller stories and turned the whole thing on its head. I started thinking, "What if James Bond or Jack Reacher were a woman? What if she was the head of a multinational corporation? What if she led a team of commandos--what would that be like?"
As I considered all the possibilities, I saw a woman with true grit, style and the kind of savvy we admire but rarely see in female characters. And it makes for an intriguing question--what kind of man can get a woman like that? And would she even let him?
Q: Does your series have an intended audience?
A: Sure. YOU. This series starts out as an international romantic suspense, but it's definitely got plenty of action, racy thrills and a tantalizing bit of mystery. It's written from both a woman and a man's perspective, and features a really fantastic supporting cast of characters with their own unique personalities. Anyone who loves Damn Good Fiction will enjoy this series.
