I think I've posted a list before, but a few have gone to paying platforms. I don't use these for clients, and I can't stress enough that you need to be cautious, (people have been known to upload images they don't own), and read terms carefully. Some photos require attribution or might have other restrictions placed on them by individual photographers. Few have model releases, and there are a fair number that include pictures that contain copyrighted or trademarked elements that you can't legally use in same cases for a commercial project.. but here is a list of a few sites that provide free high-resolution images you might find useful for your book covers or websites.

I've found some awesome textures and nature shots on these sites that I've used in my own projects (not for clients).

This is my favourite and I've connected with a few photographers on here.

This is an established, well-respected source.

These images are from one photographer. He's pretty amazing. I might actually use his images in a series of commercial poster projects I'm working on.

It says these have been put into public domain.

Looks good if you need a rock texture, or up-close details of nature.

I just discovered this site. Will be checking it out a little closer later on. Looks pretty darn good.

Thank you for taking the time to put the list together.  In your experience, are there any sites that tend to have more high resolution images?  I was on Morgue File the other day looking for new cover images for my next book.  They had a ton of stuff to choose from, but only a few that were "Magazine" quality and didn't trigger the Createspace Cover Creator warning that the image resolution was too low to use.

The first one I listed has high resolution images for sure. I think most of them have, if you pick through.
