I subscribed to KindleNation because it was quoted as being a FREE weekly newsletter.  However, I see that I've been charged $.99 for it.  Can anyone explain why this happened?  I wouldn't have subscribed to it had I know that there was any charge at all, since I can read it free online.  Many thanks!

I will certainly call them tomorrow, since you are obviously as stymied as I am!

You can read it free online, you can get to it's archives online for free, but if you subscribe to the Amazon Blog, you pay for it, just like any other blog (which are also free online and you pay for delivery). The charge is a combination of the delivery service and compensation to the author.

The guy should change the name of his listing, though.

Yes all blogs when subscribed to through Kindle cost 99 cents per month.  If you have a RSS reader that you can use on the browser and not have the blog delivered directly, then it would be free to read on the Kindle.

It is weird that his listing says free in the title though.  I did notice that when you go directly into it, it does have a list price of 99 cents.

You misunderstood - and i can totally understand why.
The item you subscribed to is a newsletter, the name of which is "KindleNation - the free weekly newsletter for Kindle users." In its original online format, the Kindle Nation is free! But, amazon.com does not allow authors to publish free blogs for the Kindle. They have to charge, at minimum, 99 cents -- which is why, in the description of the blog, the author put "Kindle Nation is a free weekly email newsletter by Stephen Windwalker, author of several books about the Kindle, the Kindle for iPhone App, and other innovations in the world of books. You may sign up to receive the newsletter as a free email each week at my A Kindle Home Page web site or at http://tinyurl.com/JoinKindleNation. You may also view the Kindle Nation archives free at http://tinyurl.com/KindleNationBackIssues. In addition, I am aggregating the newsletter's back issues an issue and then a month at a time as a Kindle Store offering, at the lowest price I am allowed to set, as a convenience for readers who wish to read the newsletter directly on their Kindle or, through the Kindle for iPhone App, on their iPhone or iPod Touch."

So, yeah, it's 99 cents. Now, I think the author made a mistake saying that this convenient format is also for people who want to read it through the iPhone app. I thought the iPhone app didn't do subscriptions. Am I mistaken?

You can get the newsletter for free via email, as well as read it online (which others have mentioned), although I do see how the title could be misleading.

It's actually a "book" containing a month's worth of the newsletter - so 4 or 5.
