My dad was the one who taught me the love of a good book. In November when my parents called for their annual 'what do you want this year' I mentioned a Kindle.

My dad had been debating about getting one for awhile so he said he wanted to see mine when they visited to make his final decision.

When they visited earlier this month my dad loved it so much he tried to kidnap Phoebe! He said he would buy me a new LOL. I love my dad but gee.. ;)

Well, after the failed kindlenapping my dad went home and stewed about having to wait till Feb/march. I called and told him about refurbs again and yesterday (or maybe it was the day before) he got one for himself.

So tomorrow he should be kindlized and Phoebe is now safe. :D

Boy I'm disappointed in your dad. I mean if you can't successfully steal from your own children, then how is he going to get ahead in life.  :D ;) :D

He asked to 'borrow' it and read it at his hotel the night before they left! ;D

Yeah, I think I have my parents about convinced to get Kindles. My dad reads like crazy (goes through three or four 400+ page novels a week), and my mom enjoys long books but hates holding them. They also go to Africa and other places pretty often, and it's a pain hauling along a ton of reading material. Jan and I told them to just load up a bunch of stuff before they go, take the necessary power converters, and they're set! They didn't have enough lead time to get one (or two) before they leave for their next trip to Africa, but I'm hoping they take the plunge after they get back... ;D

Maggie,

I'm glad Phoebe is safe in your hands!

It's great to hear that your Dad wanted one after using yours.  Not only that, he was able to get a reborn one to boot!

Cool  8)

Now you are going to have to provide an update when he gets it  :D

YOU MADE YOUR PARENTS STAY AT A HOTEL!!! That is unheard of in my family. We never do that even if it means someone ends up on air mattresses on the floor. :)

Too funny, Chobitz!  Good job hanging on to Phoebe!

And Vamp, no one could make ME stay at my friends/relatives' houses.  Much prefer a nearby hotel!!!!  LOL!

I always feel the same way but most of my 'kin' live farther into the boonies than I do.  The nearest town with a good hotel to my aunt's is about 45 miles away on some nasty curvy mountain roads.

Yes, I should have added "if there's a hotel/motel/b&b/boarding house/tent nearby" LOL! That's why I loved the RV while we had it.

There are two reasons they stay at a hotel.

My dad can't sleep on an air mattress because of bad back problems and we don't have a guest room.
If they did stay here I would kill my mom  We get along like cats and dogs. ;)

Oh, man, we tried sleeping on an air mattress at my stepson's house when we were babysitting and I couldn't walk for three days!!!!  Never again.

Fish and company smell after three days, sooner sometimes!  LOL!

Your story makes me worry about my own Kindle (when I finally receive it).  My family are all readers and even though they are not amazed and excited about the Kindle right now.........they will be when they see mine  ;D

Well the big thing for my dad is he liked the easy way he could buy books. He hates the internet, refuses to use it. He was still going to brick and mortar stores for his books. My mom was the amazon addict and had been showing my dad how to buy books through amazon. But my dad is just stubborn. ::)

He likes how he can buy books without a computer.

chobitz better keep your kindle close!

about the family, staying at the house...my family always get a hotel room, but they never stay in it. they say staying at our house is more comfortable and they gamble at the local casino instead of the Strip. I sometimes end up using their room more then they do. My family has dubbed mom some kind of gambling good luck charm (she doesn't gamble) and most of the time when I tell the family i'm heading home mom tell me that I better not leave her behind. I can't gamble to I ended up spending the night in the hotel room

I think I'd be homeless if I lived in Vegas.  I love slot machines too much.  I have never lost to one though.  I set a limit and once I reach it, I quit but sometimes it's just so hard to do.

If any family ever gets around to coming out to visit us, I will buy them a room at the Inn in our neighborhood.  We get a homeowner's discount, and the rooms are very nice.  It is only about a mile to our house.  We have 2 extra "bedrooms", but one is filled with books and craft materials, and the other is a "junk" room - no room for a bed!  Of course, we have lived here for 16 years, and it hasn't come up yet.  My sister just doesn't travel this far, and my husband's brother's wife is afraid to fly, and they live on the other coast.

Congrats on keeping your kindle safe and secure!  I just don't know what I would do without mine.  in fact I am in trouble with my DTB club because I don't seem to find the time to read the books.

There is no way I will stay with my in-laws, even if I have to drive 45 miles on curvy mountain roads, but then that's a good excuse to not be able to go, no room, can't afford the air fare, too dangerous to drive, etc.  I don't know where my husband  came from, they must have found him under a rock because he is an absolute doll and they are - well let's just say I don't enjoy "traveling" all that much  ;)
