Alan Rinzler, a veteran publisher, wrote an upbeat and interesting post about the state of publishing on his blog. http://www.alanrinzler.com/blog/2011/06/05/good-day-sunshine-for-writers/

You might want to check it out. According to Rinzler, self-publishing is a wise step for authors these days. And, he states, it no longer holds a stigma for agents and publishers.

Good news for indies!

Great article, though it's funny how its argument about methods of promotion and being available pretty much completely contradicts Joe Konrath's blog for today. Anyway, great stuff. Thanks for sharing, Suzanne!

Excellent blog, especially coming from someone who has been in publishing for a long time.

It can be difficult to pick a title that is going to be a big seller, just as Hollywood continues to make bad bets too.  A film can have it all, big budget, big stars, great director etc and still be a flop.  The public can be fickle.

Interesting, thanks for posting.

"This is where you, the author, come in. What creates buzz is when the author connects directly with the reader. Readers don't care who published the book; they want a relationship with the author."

I can't believe they never understood this.
