Hello All,
I am a retired teacher following the love of her life around the world as he commissions powerplants. I find myself in many exotic places living a rather mundane life existing within hotels in small backwater towns. I'm currently in the wilds of Brazil huddling under the A/C trying to stay cool. I have decided to make use of the long hours alone by beginning a book of undetermined length and am now applying all of the advice I used to give my 4th grade students.
I have often thought of writing novels but never had the time and secondly have been terrified of the inevitable rejections one has to endure to find a publisher; for in my mind there is no point in writing a story if there is no audience to read it. Now the first excuse is quite obviously no longer valid. And I recently discovered that the second excuse is also no longer an obstacle when I read Scott McElhaney's Mystic Saga series and more recently Hugh Howey's Wool and Shift series. I am just over 15,000 words into my sci-fi story and am very curious how other self-publishing authors find editors for their work? Are there any informal exchanges between budding authors? I'll edit yours if you edit mine kind of groups?
I look forward to getting involved in the myriad discussions on this board and hopefully will learn a few things on the way and maybe even meet a few friends.
