Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has signed up for the new Amazon Book Clubs or is planning to. I just learned about it today but my understanding is that it has no discussion features at all and is just another way for Amazon to let you rate and promote your favorite books. If that is true it's a little bit disappointing to me but then I was thinking, if they add discussion features later I might be very interested in it. It's supposed to be in Beta right now but I was thinking about signing up. Any thoughts? Anyone else signing up?

It's funny, i noticed that the banner says: "your books deserve great conversations"... but there doesn't seem to be any way to have a conversation about them... LOL!

I've never heard of it until this moment. Where do you find out about it? Could it be the discussion function won't show up until it goes live?
Go to amazon.com and do a search for Amazon Book Club...

And yes it is possible that the discussion function might show up later....

I saw this article about it this morning:

https://the-digital-reader.com/2020/09/11/amazon-launches-book-clubs-in/

I took a look and joined a club but once I was in it there wasn't anything much there. It was basically just signing up for notifications and I already get too many of those so I left the club.

I'd be interested if they decide to have real book discussions about books that interest me.

I agree. Barnes and Noble has or at least had (not sure if it still exists) something similar to this where u vote on the best book in a specific catagory that someone initially posts... ie. Someone will say whats the best cyberpunk book and people will either answer or vote for books someone else has already suggested. In my opinion its gimicky and real discussions would be much more appealing.

Yeah, I decided not to join either... looks to be the same as goodreads but more basic.

it's weird that amazon would purchase GOODREADS and then 7 years later come out with an inferior "club"  I wonder if they will eventually merge the two

Beware. Its like Hotel California, you can never leave apparently. I joined the mystery one just to see and there is no option anywhere to un-join.  :-X. Not that big of a deal, just weird.

eta: never mind, found it finally on the settings page where you can pick how to get notifications. All the way down bottom leftish.

I joined one of the clubs a week or two ago to see what was there and I didn't find much so I did close my membership.  I don't recall how I did it but I do remember it didn't take too long to find.
