After reading well over 100 private eye mysteries right after 1999, I started in on my own "Mike Angel Dark" series. One of the things I'd noticed is that romance and even semi-explicit sex scenes were not usually part of the sub-genre. I made Mike's conflict over commitment, love, romance and such part of the sub-plot of all the novels. So, yes, I have at least 2 or 3 steamy scenes and much romance as Mike gradually moves toward a lasting commitment with his optimistic, brown-belt, super spark plug love interest, Molly Bennett who became his secretary in book 2. Because he is cursed with a roving eye, Molly wisely tells him "fib if you have to," and that she can wait for commitments, sure in herself that she is what he will want and need long term.

This creates several triangle situations in the novels, and often a great deal of tension, aside from the cases solved and mysteries confronting Mike and his older pervert of a partner, Rick Anthony. So a new sub-genre? Hardboiled mysteries with steamy romance and seduction? Yeah. Let me add, for smartasses.

My two paranormal romances might fit the bill. The first is steamy yet intimate (Immortal Protector). My second, when it went to RT, wound up reviewed as erotica. It wasn't, it was just hot, but I guess it was too hot for regular consumption? Who knows!!!! thanks for compiling the list.

Two of my self-pubbed are steamy, Immortal Ecstasy and Jule Reigh and the Jim Stone Affair.

Most of the others in my sig are steamy, too, but they are with e-pubs, not self-pubbed.

(My other self-pubbed, A Date Worse Than Death, has a steamy kiss at the end, but no sex.)

Thanks!

Steamy paranormal romance set in steamy New Orleans: The Shifters, from The Keepers Trilogy

Charged with overseeing the shapeshifters of New Orleans, Caitlin MacDonald has her reasons for being wary of their kind. So when charismatic bounty-hunting shifter Ryder Mallory blows into town claiming to be on the trail of a horde of malevolent entities called Walk-Ins, Caitlin has no reason to trust him-with her city or her heart. But as tourists start dropping dead from supernatural possession, Cait must team with Ryder to navigate his shadowy, ephemeral world…

Fiercely independent, Ryder usually hunts alone-but this case requires an exception. To prevent a supernatural massacre, he needs the beautiful Keeper on his side-and, if possible, even closer. In his world, appearances can be deceiving and deadly. And the only way they'll survive is if this woman who tempts him like no other trusts in him completely….

The Keepers Trilogy: Three extraordinary sisters are charged with managing the supernatural communities of New Orleans.

The Keepers, by Heather Graham
The Shifters, by Alexandra Sokoloff
The Wolven, by Deborah LeBlanc

My 1st is very steamy (An Unexpected Obsession). The second is closed door type sex, but probably wouldn't qualify... I toned it down after a few reviews stating my book was porn and regret doing so ???.  Next time around I'm keeping the sex HOT! ;)

Great list! let me know what you name it!

Lanette, I had to get a sample of A Date Worse Than Death--I love the title!
