Hi there, my name is Debra Purdy Kong and I've been living and writing and working and raising kids in the pacific northwest for nearly thirty years. I've been lucky enough to have published nearly 100 short stories, essays, and articles for publications in North America and Europe. Probably, the most famous publication would be an essay in Chicken Soup for the Bride's Soul. But I spend most of my writing time working on my mystery novels. I've published two white-collar crime mysteries set in Vancouver, Taxed to Death and Fatal Encryption. And they've now been released on Kindle! Yeah! Here's a bit about them:

TAXED TO DEATH: After discovering evidence of fraud, tax auditor Alex Bellamy is attacked and his colleague murdered. Jillian Scott's the only one who can help him, but she has a terrifying reason for refusing to cooperate.

"TAXED TO DEATH is a superb mystery of plot tists and turns. A masterpiece of suspenseful storytelling." Jim Cox, Midwest Review

FATAL ENCRYPTION: When a computer hack threatens to destroy a family business and peoples' jobs in Vancouver, the McKinleys wants Alex Bellamy to stop him. But Alex didn't count on dealing with fire ... and murder.

"Fatal Encryption is the type of book that makes you long for the next in the series as you approach the end -- a page turner with more depth tha most." Julie Ferguson, Author of Book Magic.

My interest in crime, especially white-collar crime, prompted me to start a blog several months ago that discusses interesting and sometimes outrageous stories in the world of fraud, computer hacking and ID theft. I usually post once a week, so if you'd like to follow this blog, please visit http://www.authorsden.com/visit/viewblog.asp?AuthorID=87017. At the bottom of the page you'll see easy to access archives. I try to keep the blogs short and provide links if I think readers would like to read more.

This week's topic is about the alarming rise in cyber crime, and just how vulnerable we all are. I also periodically offer tips about what you can do to protect yourself. By the way, I have a sheet of sheet of tips with two important phone numbers to call (credit rating companies) if your ID or accounts are ever compromised. If you'd like to obtain a copy of this sheet, please e-mail me, and I'd be happy to send you one.

Stay safe out there!

Hi everyone, I've posted my weekly installment on my white-collar crime blog. This week's entry talks about vehicle identity theft in Texas. Also, I mention the story of a fired employee who tries to seek revenge on her former company, and fails big time. What what struck me about this story is the apparent ease with which people can control someone else's computer from a distance these days.

Our computer repair guy, who's about 25 years old and is brilliant, can actually clear my PC of viruses without having to leave his house. All he does is use an application from his computer that allows him to take control of mine. Now, in this situation, it's a good thing because I save me time and money. But can you imagine what happens when people do it for nasty purposes? What a world ...

Thanks JP, I'm really glad I found Kindleboards, and by way of a little more introduction, I'm very happy to announce that Chic Galleria Magazine is profiling me in their magazine this week. If anyone's interested in reading the short, one-page piece, please go to http://tinyurl.com/c3wlay

Thanks very much!

Hi everyone, this week's installment of my white-collar crime blog discusses two vital things every teen should know about ID theft, plus what happened when one man received an unsolicited fax containing someone else's personal ID. Also, guess what I saw people doing to set themselves up for victimization. Check it out at http://tinyurl.com/dbe5rp

Cheers!
