So I want to put a skin on. My first ever. I have had a Kindle since end of 2008 and never bothered. I have the graphite K3 and the chocolate Medici Oberon.
I do not like anything distracting, don't like flowery stuff and busy designs.  More natural I guess.

I am right now torn between the Decalgirl Dark Burlwood and the Black Woodgrain. Can't figure out right now how to put up those pics  ???

What I like about the Black woodgrain is that if I mess up lining up, it won't be as noticable, I hope. It will drive me nuts if its not lined up. That is one reason I haven't bothered with skin before. Not sure how easy or hard they are to line up.

I do like the Burlwood too, but its hard to tell from the pictures. Can someone tell me if its reddish? It looks a bit reddish on the pictures. I would prefer it to me more a neutral brownish.

Anything else neutral I could look at?

From the pics, Burlwood does lood more like the saddle color but maybe someone has it and can tell you.
On the front you will line the skin up with the holes. Doing that I haven't had any issues with it not being straight. On the back, I line up the top with the speaker edges.
There is also black slate.

I thought this would look nice if not too busy:

The style fits well with the cover you have.

Or this one but I really like the one above with that cover:

Whatever you get, I would get the matte finish.

Thank you maries. Yes, I definitely want the matte. The Quest does look nice. Would go nice with my ships and lighthouses.

If you start lining up on the buttons, isn't there more chance that the frame will be crooked? I guess I find out  :D.

I knew this is going to be hard to decide.

The Quest would fit well with your ships and lighthouses.  The cutouts do help make sure you have it where it should be.  The sides and top will be easy to line up after that.  Just take your time.  I was nervous my first couple of times but now I breeze through putting one on.

Good luck with your decision.

If you start at the top, you'll never get it around the buttons.

Start at the bottom, once it's lined up correctly around the buttons everything else falls into place.

I just got my first matte finished skin a few weeks ago and it's gorgeous. I chose Crimson Quantum Waves. http://www.decalgirl.com/item.view/58159
It looks much darker on than it does in the picture.

How about something like one of these. They seem more muted to me.

On the front I start at the bottom and line it up around the buttons.  On the back I start at the top and line it up wit the speakers.  I usually do the back first.  That is a breeze.

I had the Black Woodgrain when I had my white K2

Thanks for that pic. I am still leaning towards that Black. Main reason it doesn't change how my K looks right now. I guess I am used to it being dark on the frame. The Burlwood would be a little warmer, but then there are the black buttons with the brown.

Sigh  :D

Thanks everyone with the suggestions. It made it hard, but it does help since there are so many on the website and one kind of misses some that way. I went ahead and ordered the Black Woodgrain to start with. I figured I see how it goes since I never skinned anything in my life :D. That way the color matches the kindle and any mistakes I might make wont show up.

Then if I can manage the skinning all right, I might do something a little more different next time.

Starting out conservative I guess. We'll see how long that lasts. ;D

sebat posted some really neat ones that I didn't see while plowing through the 1000's on the site.

Thanks again.

Got my skin today and put it on. It was a lot harder than I thought, but that might be just me. Half blind and shaking hands is not a good combination  :D

I am really glad I got a color that matches the frame as there was no way to totally line up. Lining up exactly on the buttons caused a less then a milimeter "crack" on the right side. Like the right part between the frame and the buttons was a little short. Again, I am picky picky, but I managed to get it fine after a while. A long while  :D

Good thing is if you don't press down hard while working it can be moved around again and again.

Of course when I was finally done I found a darn cat hair going straight in from the side so I had to lift it up again  :D

So all in all I like it. It does what I want it, but there is no way I would put anything but black on there and show cracks. That would drive me nuts.

I just put a DecalGirl skin on the other day (have to admit it's the second one I've had), and did a lot better job than I did the first time.  Everyone is right- get it around the buttons at the bottom first, and then you'll be okay.  Back is easy and I did it first for confidence.

I think that Black Woodgrain just looks awesome!!!  Subtle and classy.
