Greetings from GA. My name is Elisia and I have been a Kindle owner for exactly three months and a board lurker for almost as long. My mom introduced me to the Kindle about six months ago. I thought it was a cool concept, but thought nothing much of it. Then I had to travel overseas for about two weeks and didn't want to carry a bunch of books in my luggage. I remembered the Kindle and gave it a second (and third) glance. Thanks to the Amazon and Citibank $100 off promotions, I couldn't resist and I took the plunge. Mom was right once again (just like she was about TiVo ;D).

At home, it's been a blast being able to read and pet my dog, Duncan, at the same time (which he greatly appreciates  ;)). While waiting for delayed flights, it's been wonderful for passing the time--either through reading or spreading the word about the wonders of the Kindle.

I've definitely been reading a lot more than I have in the past several years. Thanks to the Kindle, I've also been introduced to a lot of authors that I would have missed otherwise. In turn, I've been able to introduce friends who are still reading traditional books to these authors. It's a win-win for eBooks and traditional books.

The Kindle has been an excellent investment and I know I've easily recouped the costs between the free and discounted books that I've downloaded. Unfortunately, I can't get Mom a Kindle this Christmas to thank her, but she will definitely be getting one next year.

Thanks for having such a wonderful board for Kindle users and I look forward to reading the comments/questions posted.

Howdy and welcome.  Always good to see another person from GA here.
Welcome Elisia (Duncan's Mom):

Congratulations on your Kindle and on your first post on Kindleboards!  Duncan is soooo cute!  What kind of dog is he?  We have many owners with very cute dogs.  You can post pictures in the Photo board.  We've got lots of free and bargain books in the Book Corner, plus in January we're starting book clubs!  In Accessories, you can find out about gifts for your Kindle, and in Tips & Tricks, you can learn cool things about your Kindle.  Just to name a few of our boards...

Great to meet you!

Betsy
Welcome Elisia! Glad to have you here.

I took my Kindle on an overseas trip in September and it was the greatest thing. It is great at home, too, but for planes, sitting in airports, and trains, it really is a wonderful device. Not to mention that it is hard to find English books in Switzerland and Germany and they tend to be very $$. I loved having my Kindle...still do.

Welcome to Kindle boards Elisia. I look forward to getting to know you :)
Welcome to the Kindlehood.
.... and yes always listen to MOM.
Howdy Elisia and welcome out of lurkdom!! Looking forward to seeing you around the boards!
Thank you all for the kind greetings. I had a lot of fun reading the threads last night/this morning although it made my morning workout even more tiring ;). It's been fun seeing a lot of familiar names from the Amazon Kindle discussion boards.

To answer Betsy's question, Duncan is a West Highland White Terrier aka Westie. Basically he's the white offshoot of the Scottish and Cairn terriers. I must admit he's a cutie, a very spoiled and stubborn cutie. ;D You'll probably be seeing a lot more pictures of him.

Yes, I've already started decking out my Kindle. I bought one skin from DecalGirl and will probably get more. I've also been eyeballing the beautiful Oberon covers too. Still trying to decide which one I like best. Very tough choice.  :)

Well, I'm off to read more posts...
Hi Elisia! What a beautiful name! Welcome to the Board. Like you, I'm reading way more now than before I got my Kindle. Thanks to the Book section of this forum and the free or low-cost books on Amazon, I am learning of new authors everyday. It will be fun seeing you around the Board.

Hi, Elisia -

I'm looking forward to many more pics of your Westie Duncan. How long has he been a member of the family? I am glad to see you jumping right in & do share your skin for your Kindle :)

Cheers,

Marci
