Is there a way to buy books from Amazon without doing it wirelessly? I thought I had heard you could just download it to your computer and then transfer it via the USB cable, but when I am on Amazon I only see the option to Send wirelessly to my Kindle. Am I missing something somewhere?

That is the only option on the purchase page. But don't worry! Simply go to the Manage your Kindle page and there toward the bottom of the page are all your Kindle purchases. From there you can download to your computer and then transfer via USB.

I THINK samples are wireless only. I don't recall any appearing in my "library" at Amazon.

The USB transfer is only for actual purchases.  However, at the top of the troubleshooting page there is a thread regarding getting samples emailed to you so that you can download them via USB.  I would check that out.

Samples are wireless only. If you are unable to use WhisperNet and would like a particular sample, put your request in this thread:
