Do you like humorous gag books?  Funny essay collections?  Humor novels?  Or mixed with other kinds of fiction (mystery/comedy) etc?

I like anything that makes me laugh.

Be that silly essays, dark humour, or cerebral novels.

Comedy is only successful if it's making you laugh. The trouble is, everyone thinks they have a sense of humour, so everyone thinks all comedy is aimed at them, but it's not. So, remember, if you're not laughing, you may not be the intended audience.

I like witty social satire so that is why I like Julia Quinn's historical romances. Her books don't have quite the emotional punch of romances by other authors but they always make me chuckle. Her book What Happens in London, while not her best book by far, has the funniest scene I've read in a book in the last decade.

Last month we had a pipe burst and the lower level of our house flooded (fortunately we don't have carpet!) but my immediate response once I was done mopping up was to start a new Julia Quinn book. :)
