Amazon has made their publishing process very simple so it shouldn't take long.  I usually spend about 10 minutes or less getting a novel on KDP.

Of course, I have everything ready to go before I start.  I set up a temporary folder on my computer and put the book cover, production description, and the mobi file in it.  Then I just upload these items and fill out the other small details on the Amazon form.

My sister is an established author of printed books, but she has difficulty getting through the KDP process. A lot of her problem is that she doesn't really understand how to use her computer well.  I suggested that she get her daughter to help her or better yet to do it for her.

So do you have any problem going through the KDP process and how long does it take you?

The hardest part is doing it from scratch the first time, learning what is necessary/acceptable and all that jazz. I could easily have everything ready and go through KDP at the speed of my web browser now that I've done it once.

The only part that took me a few minutes was signing up the first time and filling in my book details. Since I already had my blurb written and have chosen the categories and pricing I wanted in advance none of that was very time consuming. I really found it all pretty simple and self-explanatory.

It took me weeks of headscratching to work out how to format. I tried smashwords style guide and other free guides but they baffled me. In the end I wrote my own free guide with pictures of Word to make it simple and included a section on adding logos and pictures. It's not the only way to do it but I now have 14 titles on the smashwords premium catalogue and on knindle and they all passed first time. I did a similar free guide for POD.

My blog is in my signature. Just look for the blog page at the top of the home page if you are interested.

The hardest part of the KDP process is waiting a day for it to be published. However, on my first time through, it took me about a week or so - but that was mostly my fault: Instead of checking every detail in the exported .mobi file and making sure it was just so, I uploaded and discovered my mistake after the fact. This required making the changes and waiting for the book to be "published" in order to re-upload. Fortunately (unfortunately?), no copies of the mistake copies were ever sold.
