Can somebody tell me the best free way to get a document into my Kindle without having to pay Amazon's mail-a-doc fee?

At the moment it's just plain text, a collection of poems for my own use.  I just want to import it into the Kindle in whatever format the device needs.

I think I saw a method of doing this once, but I can't remember exactly how right now.

You don't say which Kindle you have, and it does make a difference. If you have a K3, you can email the file to <your-kindle's-name>@free.kindle.com. The file will show up on your kindle the next time you connect to wifi (not the 3G cellular service)

If you don't have a K3 (or access to wifi), you can use the same free.kindle.com email address, but the resulting file will be returned to you as an email attachment. You can copy this file to your kindle using the USB cable.

Clear as mud :D?

Stupid of me not to mention which version I have.  It's the latest wi-fi version, third generation I think they call it, graphite color.

Thanks so much for this!  I will give it a shot.
