I was out camping this weekend, and the moon, while not full, was quite bright. I knew that as bright as the moon may seem, it's not bright enough to read by. But I figured that if the font was large enough, you might be able to read. So I took my Kindle out in the moonlight, and set the font to maximum. I found that I could read quite clearly. I then set it one size smaller. I could still read, but it wasn't quite as easy. I then set the font one size smaller, and I could not read at all. I could see that there were words, but I couldn't read them.
I think that even with a large print book you wouldn't have been able to read by moonlight. So, the answer to the question of whether you can read by moonlight is only if you have a really big font... and a Kindle helps.
