I just uploaded my short horror story...

And, without a cover at all, someone has just bought it!

That didn't happen at all with my first book, even though both had snappy titles (although arguably the new one is more contemporary).

As it is not linked yet to my Amazon profile, I have to presume that the person just liked the title? How did they find it?

Anyone else have that happen to them? Maybe some titles just attract more interest than others immediately because of subject matter / could be?

Appreciate any view!

I didn't think it was possible to sell a book without a cover. Are you sure there isn't an error somewhere?

I have a 2 page 'book' out with no cover under a pen name. No one has ever purchased it but when I made it free in Select it got 186 dls.

...I wonder if it has any reviews?
Yeah.

Am hoping it's because the title has grabbed someone's attention. It's possible that someone liked my first book and searched for other stuff by me.
Can I ask how short your horror story is? Like word count. I put a horror/ghost story up on Wattpad just to put it out there. I felt like I needed several more to make a book, just wasn't sure.
I read a lot of horror short stories (both free and purchased) and they tend to vary from 15 kindle pages to 120 kindle pages (not too sure how many words this translates to.

A lot of the authors I know that write short horror stories tend to release 75% of their short stories individually but will then make up anthologies or collections with a few new ones in them that are unavailable to download individually. It seems like a good tactic.
It was 40 pages.

Now the sale has disappeared!?

Thanks Andrea, that does sound like a good way to go.
I have only one short story available (The Bleeding Trees in my signature) and it's not a big seller. I plan on writing more and then putting them together into a collection. Seems like the most logical way thing to do.

I did that with mine. My collection is mostly previously unreleased stuff, but it has some previous releases in it.

As far as Amazon goes, I too thought you needed a cover to publish over there.
