My first Michael Belmont Book has been free for the last few years. It gets consistent downloads- used to get a lot more before Amazon changed its algorithms. Does this lead to additional sales? Some, I think, though I'm convinced that a lot of people who download it don't read it for a long time and/or perhaps never will.
Unless you're making a lot of money as things are with the book you want to permafree, what have you got to lose? It's a great way to get visibility and exposure, and you can always undo it, though I've heard that sometimes takes a little work.
