Oh, and this is for real, I actually saw a real Black Helicopter the other day. It was literally a black Blackhawk with no insignia or lights, flying about fifty feet off the ground. Thought that was a myth. Had to tell somebody.
And now you've told the whole world :D

Not trying to stir this up or anything, but I always thought that 'trad' was short for Trade Publishing and not for 'traditional' anyway! I mean, it makes more sense. So adding the 'e' is hardly a big deal. I still can't see what is objectionable about 'indie' though.

However, if it is just about standardizing terms so everyone means the same thing, then I have no problem with that at all.

Not that I have the smallest intention of going to AW. I already have two forums to swallow my time (one public -here- and one private) and that is more than enough! Public gives you the mass opinion and private gives you the specialist opinion. What more can you really need?

Edit to add: The reader's opinion! That one matters a great deal too  ;D

Writer's Sanctum is awesome, everything I've wanted from kboards and more
Would you post a link, please?

I googled 'writers sanctum' and got a lot of results that seem to be other things entirely - a music discussion group, a publishing house, etc.

The idea is that they consider anyone beside the big 5 to be an "indie press," so it's to "avoid confusion." And while I understand the moderators doing this and perhaps insisting on thread titles that do this, to enforce it on a per-post level is destined to end badly.

I'm not bashing AW, but stating a fact. Last I checked they still had a pinned post in the "self-publishing forum" (which used to contemptuously point out that it wasn't a cheerleading forum) declaring Joe Konrath a lying liar who lied about his initial success "self-publishing" through KDP. It's a long, lovingly crafted essay filled with "evidence" about his claims and his numbers that draws the conclusion that he's full of spit and not the success he purported himself to be. It's been there for years.

Just a fact one should know before waltzing in there and saying anything regarding indie publishing (you'll be harangued and threatened over that term) or money.

I once said that some self-publishers had been incredibly successful and was immediately upbraided for saying that, because within that statement about self-publishers I was implying that trade-published authors were less successful. I didn't think language worked that way, but what the hellever.

It's a good place to go if you want to research agents or publishers, maybe for writing encouragement, but that's it.

I backed away from all writing venues. Result: more than 50k words this month.

Did the new owners respond to concerns about theTOS in any way? This was a wonderful resource.

It's probably still too new for it to rank in Google's algorithm yet. You can find it here -> www.writersanctum.com

I'll be using both :)
