Is it something in the air? Or is it a year ending in 13?

Having been following KB since late spring and now participating for several months, I see something happening.  In the past, someone might make a rude or poorly worded or unintentional comment.  Another person might take offense.  Then the OP would apologize or clarify.  Sharp words would continue for only a few more posts with very few people chiming in other than to calm the waters.  Lately, the same type of post creates a firestorm of vitriole with far more taking sides in the battle.  I find myself starting to follow a thread, getting uncomfortable with the nastiness, realizing the original subject material has been hijacked, and then I stop following the thread...all in that order.  Am I alone in this?  What's going on?  Is it caused by sales numbers back at zero for the new year?  (I wasn't around past Januarys.)  Does it originate from the same tight financial situation that's affecting families across the country and the world?  Is everyone gripped by conspiracy theories?  Is it something in the air, or that 13 in 2013?  (I'm only joking about the 13.  I've always considered it my personal lucky number.)  I can't believe we survived the most divisive political season I can remember, only to collapse under petty arguments and attacks.  Any thoughts on this?  Or am I out of line?

The relevant information may be found in page 1 of any thread. Anything beyond page 2 is simply entertainment.

Most of us already know everything*, and we're just banging our swords on each other so we don't have to write fiction.

*Hyperbole.

OK.  I got the message.  I need to lighten up.  Hubby is down with a bad cold.  I'm tired from a long holiday period concluded with 12 hours in the car.  Christmas decorations are screaming at me to be packed away for another 11 months.  The world will look brighter tomorrow.
I feel better already.  Checked sales report before going to bed and found a brown bar had disappeared.  :D :) ;D

Don't sweat the decorations. If anyone gives you grief tell them you are getting a jump on Christmas 2013! ;D

I love this! No way I'll convince hubby though. My adult kids and grandkids would laugh their head off, and think I had finally lost it. Nevertheless, it would save time in December. Hmmm....

Pretty much. Or hanging around until the morning brain fog clears and we can get to work.
It is TOTALLY "2012 plus one", not...that other number. ;)

Don't bash on 13 -- the psychic I visited in Sedona (don't judge...it was for research purposes. Ahem) said that 13 is a very misunderstood number and actually represents change and unconventional thinking. Sounds like the perfect number for this group!

I was born on the 13th, married on the 13th, had my first child on the 13th. My 13th birthday fell on Friday, the 13th. Hubby was born on the 14th at 5 minutes past midnight. I have to believe he was meant to be another 13 in my life. (He does tend to run about 5 minutes late most of the time.) So, I consider 13 a lucky number. Now I have to think about that idea of change and unconventional thinking. People who know me well would argue with that. On the other hand, I'm still evolving, and I am a rather independent soul (stubborn could be another word).

I trained my family early. Christmas decorations do not come down until it's time to put up Easter decorations.

13 has always been a lucky number for me. Now I get a whole year of it. :D

My wedding anniversary is on the 13th, too! :)

And it's the Year of the Snake (I'm a Snake). Things are looking good!

I'm going to blame forum crankiness on a combo of winter blues and sugar crashing -- everyone indulged over the holidays and is now coming down to earth. Or something like that...
I SWEAR we had a thread last week or so congratulating us all for not getting worked up and having civil threads.

(I admit I feel guilty, because there was a thread where some people, including me, called someone a name.)

It's been at least two or three days since I called someone a name. I figure I'm up for sainthood. ;)
