I purchased my Kindle 3 at Staples. I called Amazon when my screen did the same thing. Amazon did the replacement and no mention was made of where it was purchased. I carry my Kindle just about everywhere I go and use a leather case. I don't remember dropping it or anything unusual happening, I just opened it up to read and found the screen just like yours.
