Is there a BookBub-like app?

Since newsletters have worked well, is there an app that is doing the same thing as BookBub? Doesn't seem to be... which makes me think maybe there should be because it allows for those who don't use email but read, aka younger generations, to discover new books and thus bring more readers to indies.

I see Hoopla kind of like this. It's very app based, but it's a retailer. Problem for Indies is you're accepted into Hoopla when Hoopla wants you--that can be months, if not years.

Bookbub, and newsletters and the like, are email based for advertising. I don't see apps as advertising things. But that's my understanding of apps.

About 5 years ago my niece--she was probably 17 or 18 at the time--told me that only old people use email.

Google: young people don't use email

From a marketing perspective, that's very troubling. So RBC's point about an app is interesting. I do know some authors who use text based marketing along with email. When you sign up you have the option of getting emails or texts.

For anyone who writes YA or younger, this bears some thought. Frankly, everyone should think of it, probably.

@alhawke I guess that's fair to say, Bookbub is advertising in reality. But we as users kinda see it as 'discovery' thing.

And apps are perfect for discovery, that's the whole reason why TikTook blew up. Partly Instagram, heck, Youtube homepage when you open it suggests new videos according to the interests you have been watching and searching for. Thus my thought how do we not have that kind of app for book discovery.

Wasn't aware of Hoopla, and can't find it in my app store, in Europe. But the hoopla.com site looks great and that makes sense. I can see myself using it.

@ImaWriter she was right at that point haha But don't think email will die, people have to use it for work etc so that will stick for a while. But for YA, it definitely seems that BookTok and BookTube and Bookstagram where the places youngsters are at. So this tracks for me.

This app could even be something like Tinder, a match of a book for your interests. You could swipe left and right on them. But that's a bit too game-y. I'd start simpler. Eventually you can add Follow features like BookBub has etc.

Might just talk myself into starting this thing

I'm always game with trying something new.

Do they text each reader individually? By using some service? That'd be quite time consuming if it was done per phone #. But I could see a higher open rate.
