Wow, never thought I would actually see "A Dance With Dragons" in print, and on an e-ink screen to boot! I gotta say, I felt a slight twinge that I was not seeing the glorious cover and all that weighty door-stopper goodness with a hardback. But hey, technology and progress, right? :)

So, some intro warm-up questions...

1. OMG OMG OMG!....slow down, take a deep breath, it is really HERE! On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being "I'm just buying the book to burn it to spare someone else the misery" and 10 being "I named my kids Nymeria, Eddard, and Westeros", how happy are you right now?

2. Have you been waiting since 2005 and AFFC, or did you get into the series more recently?

3. What book did you STOP reading just so you could start ADWD?

4. Did you spoil yourself by reading those trickled out advance chapters?

5. Did you watch GOT on HBO and now see those actors in your head?

I'm at about a 9. I'm slightly concerned that Martin may have lost some mojo and passion for the series

2. Have you been waiting since 2005 and AFFC, or did you get into the series more recently?

Since 2005, baby! I started ASOIAF from book 1's publication back in school

3. What book did you STOP reading just so you could start ADWD?

James Ellroy's "The Black Dahlia", only halfway through and it is gooooooooooood

4. Did you spoil yourself by reading those trickled out advance chapters?

Heck no!

5. Did you watch GOT on HBO and now see those actors in your head?

Yup, can't help it

I'd say a 9. I stayed up late last night to see if it showed up on my Kindle at midnight but it wasn't there at 12:15am so I had to go to bed.

2. Have you been waiting since 2005 and AFFC, or did you get into the series more recently?
I discovered the series about 2 years ago and thought it was amazing. I'm glad I haven't been waiting since 2005!

3. What book did you STOP reading just so you could start ADWD?
I actually didn't start a book yesterday so I'd be ready. Read a couple of Sherlock Holmes stories and watched Firefly episodes.

4. Did you spoil yourself by reading those trickled out advance chapters?
Absolutely not.

5. Did you watch GOT on HBO and now see those actors in your head?
Yes. Loved the series and of course will now see those characters in my head. Right before the first Lord of the Rings movie came out, I re-read the books for the ump-teenth time, knowing it would be the last time I would be able to do it without seeing movie actors in my head. Luckily those movies were amazing and so was GOT.

I'm going to have to go with 9 as well. When I woke my Kindle this morning saying, "Now to do the most important thing", DH thought I was checking battery life. "Its DRAGON DAY" was my response. (He immediately went to audible and got the audiobook.)

2. Have you been waiting since 2005 and AFFC, or did you get into the series more recently?
Been waiting since around 2005. I can't remember if I started reading them right before or sometime after AFFC.

3. What book did you STOP reading just so you could start ADWD?
I read a bunch of short YA so nothing would be "on my plate" today. Its the cross-stitching I was doing that is going to suffer. Oh, and housework. ;)

4. Did you spoil yourself by reading those trickled out advance chapters?
Nope, I refused to. Mostly because GRRM would give us those rather than finishing the whole book!

5. Did you watch GOT on HBO and now see those actors in your head?
For some characters, Varys, Tyrion and Jamie. Jon is similar but not Kit Harrington. I don't picture the women. And Sam is completely different. (No neck beard for one. :) )

Yay! Double Yay! Triple Yay! I'd say 9+. The only thing that holds me from 10 is that I read a GRRM interview where he said he is super busy for the foreseeable future and has only 100 pages of TWoW written so far, so I know I am in for another really long wait. That being said, this beats HP#7 for me, which is saying a lot. I waited up for the download last night and after I got it I immediately went to the TOC and seeing Tyrion, Dany and Jon's names was like seeing long-lost old friends. Next I made Hubby download the book to his iPad so I could see the cover in its full-color glory. ;)

2. Have you been waiting since 2005 and AFFC, or did you get into the series more recently?
2005. I started reading the series just before ASoS was published, when I thought it was a trilogy, so it was a long wait for AFfC too.

3. What book did you STOP reading just so you could start ADWD?
I've been re-reading 1-3 the series in anticipation, but mistimed it so I am 100 pages from finishing ASoS. I wasn't going to re-read AFfC (didn't like it) but now am tempted to at least re-read the Arya, Jaime and Cersei chapters before we get to their chapters in ADwD

4. Did you spoil yourself by reading those trickled out advance chapters?
Yes, over the years I've read 3 (?) of them that appeared on GRRM's site, but I can't really remember what happened.

5. Did you watch GOT on HBO and now see those actors in your head?
Yes, except for a few that totally didn't look like how I imagined. Renly and Loras are the main ones that come to mind.

So happy to be reading this with you all!

I would say 9.5 ;D I stayed up last night to see it download and read the prologue and the first chapter (it came in for me at about 2:10 a.m. CST (12:10 a.m. PST).

2. Have you been waiting since 2005 and AFFC, or did you get into the series more recently?
I've been waiting since 2005! I've now read all the previous books 3-4 times.

3. What book did you STOP reading just so you could start ADWD?
Didn't start anything so I'd be free to read ADWD immediately. ;D Started a book of short stories last week (because I figured I could stop reading that if I needed to), finished it Saturday, and so I re-read the first and second Dunk and Egg tales Sunday and Monday.

4. Did you spoil yourself by reading those trickled out advance chapters?
Mostly no . . . the only one I read was the Daenarys chapter that was included in the back of AFFC and the back of the series bundle. I feel like I have to read EVERYTHING included in a book. ::) I haven't read any of the online ones, though.

5. Did you watch GOT on HBO and now see those actors in your head?
We don't have HBO -- I only saw the first episode since it was on a free preview weekend. My husband and I will watch the whole series at once when it comes out on Blu-Ray. I saw that episode at the start of my recent re-read, but it really didn't change the pictures in my head. Well . . . maybe Ned to Sean Bean a little, but I'm a HUGE Sean Bean fan, and I think Ned may have looked that way in my head already. ;)

I'm delirious with joy. I think I'm a 12. And now I can stop going to GRRM's website looking for updates!

2. Have you been waiting since 2005 and AFFC, or did you get into the series more recently?

I've been waiting. I read GOT almost as soon as it came out and was hooked by the end of Chapter 1.

3. What book did you STOP reading just so you could start ADWD?

The Book of Deacon by Joseph Lallo.

4. Did you spoil yourself by reading those trickled out advance chapters?

No. absolutely not

5. Did you watch GOT on HBO and now see those actors in your head?

Yes. I'm OK with all of them, except maybe Cersei. .

9. Though I considered naming household computers after ASoIaF characters, I declined.

I believe I've been waiting since 2006. I recall listening to the audio of AFFC while rocking my infant son to sleep. He's now almost 5.

Schlock Mercenary: Massively Parallel. It's one of the graphic novels nominated for the Hugo, and it's damn funny.

No, no, no. There are things for which I'd peek at spoilers. This is not one of those things.

I'm actually alternating between the ebook and the audio, so I hear Roy Dotrice's gravelly voice as much as I hear the characters from the show. Except for Emelia Clarke. I hear and picture her instead of Dotrice. It's much more pleasant that way.
