Not quite like John Wayne dying, but much of my childhood was spent watching Gunsmoke in front of the tv with my mom and grandmother.  RIP, Matt.

To borrow the lyrics of a Toby Keith song:

I bet you've never heard ole Marshal Dillon say
Miss Kitty have you ever thought of running away
Settling down would you marry me
If I ask you twice and beg you pretty please
She'd of said Yes in a New York minute
They never tied the knot
His heart wasn't in it
He just stole a kiss as he rode away
He never hung his hat up, at Kitty's place

I shoulda been a cowboy
I shoulda learned to rope and ride
Wearing my six-shooter, riding my pony, on a cattle drive
Stealing  a young girl's hearts
Just like Gene and Roy
Singing those campfire songs
I shoulda been a cowboy.

That makes me very sad.  I used to watch Gunsmoke with my grandmother as a child.  I thought Matt Dillon was the best.  :(

I too have memories of watching Gunsmoke with my Grandmother.  Such good, good memories. The letter he wrote to say goodbye to his fans shows what a class act he was.  R.I.P.
