I completed my kindle free day promotion last Friday, 1st of February.

My book was downloaded 1600 times in 2 days, if any, how soon can I start to see high paid sales?

1. I received 2 sales on Saturday & 1 borrow, 2nd February

2. I received 4 sales on Sunday & 2 borrows, 3rd February

3. Received 0 sales  today, Monday & 0 borrows, 4th February

Is Monday a slow day for paid sales after KDP Select promotions?

Monday has been slow for my paid and free downloads. I think the reports are undergoing maintenance (so said the blurb minutes ago).

People say three days.

Unfortunately, to get a bump, 1600 is not really enough free downloads. You probably need more like 10,000.

I never did get one of these free day bump things myself (even when I did give away 10K books). Free has only ever helped me sell the next books in a series.

Good luck!

That's how I see freebies. A chance to win new customers if they open them up.

You have to do insanely well to get a sales bump from a free run now.

It depends. I've never had a 3-day bump at all, not even when I gave away more than 10K copies. My highest sales have always been on day 1.

I've given away 1500 copies and gotten no sales.
I've given away 200 and gotten a handful of sales.
When I gave away 11K, I got 70 sales.
My last (unadvertised, un-twittered) promo, I gave away 1300 copies and got 40 sales. I had my novel priced at $6.99, too. That was a small kind of awesome.

The truth is that there is not truth.

When a sales bump does materialize, it tends to be around 40 hours after the end of your free run (assuming the system is operating normally). Unfortunately however, 1600 downloads is unlikely to be enough to result in a measurable bump.

There's no magic formula to it. It'll either happen or it won't.

I wish I could encourage you otherwise.

Or be a smart-aleck about it and say, "What, you mean you're not a millionaire, yet? Sue Amazon!"

But the truth is more mundane... a free run will either reap results over time... or it won't.

More irritating: you may never know what effect it's had.

:)

After all, maybe someone reads it in six months and tells a bunch of friends. A lot of people have amassed huge numbers of free books. It can take a long time before they even think of looking at yours.

Just keep going, no matter how a promo works, the one sure thing you can do to help is write more.

That, and give away your books for free at every opportunity. Because that's how you get rich: never charge anyone anything. So the 100 people or so who actually know you exist as a writer will never have to help you earn a penny, nor get around to reading your stuff, nor tell anyone about you....

...ummm...

...yeah, maybe that's what NOT to do. ;) LOL

P.S. I kid around ... a lot.
