KDP want feedback from me. Suggestions?

6100 Views 59 Replies 30 Participants Last post by  HN Wake
Apparently they're going to phone me. Has anyone done this before? What kind of thing do they ask? I'm useless at feedback surveys as my mind goes blank, so I tend to say things like, "Yes, totes happy with the service thanx tralala bye," and then only after it's over remember what I'd really like to say. So what do I think about KDP? Any thoughts?

Write everything you can think of about KDP now.  When they call refer to your notes.

I suspect I'd be on a hiding to nothing with that one.

I'm guessing you are about to get a rep.
Really? That's not the impression I got from the email.

They do it for top selling authors. HM Ward was allowed to be non exclusive when she had her books in KDP select.
It would be "nice" if we could talk to them by phone instead of email when we have a problem.
I second the phone option. Have it similar to CreateSpace customer support where you leave a number and your phone rings in 5 seconds. Ideally, 24/7
OK, I'm writing these things down. Thanks.
I would like to know what they do with scam artists who take an author's work and pass it as their own.

Once the author brings it to Amazon's attention- what do they do with the person? Do they just block them or is legal action taken? What do they do with the $ earned from the sales? Does it go to the author whose work was infringed upon or does Amazon keep the $?

If Amazon gets to keep 100% of the $, there is no incentive for them to STOP people from pirating our work and passing it off as their own. Do the customers get to keep the pirated copy?

I noticed Amazon recently sent me a newsletter of Free books for a particular genre I read. Are they going to do this for every one? How do they select these books? Do authors get to have any input?
I wanted to add- I'm happy with their email customer service. They are usually helpful and always polite. They really do have GREAT customer service.

-Any way they could NOT charge per KB download in other countries? Apple doesn't do this- why does Amazon?

Remove price-matching as the only option for making a book free (outside of Select free days, obviously). Allow us to have the option of pricing our books at free, and have that go through immediately to all Amazon stores, since the non-US stores are notoriously inconsistent at price-matching to free.
I think this might be a rep call, but if they really are asking for feedback, I would love to point out that Apple pays 70% even on titles priced below $2.99. Why can't Amazon do the same?

They did it for a set time for big authors -- not forever. It was like a tryout.

+1
It's hard to plan in advance for promos, etc when you're uncertain when your Amazon book will go free.

Also, to email an alert when they do decide to price match. Some authors seem to get a heads up and some don't. I'd like them to send an auto notification when Amazon lowers the price of my book.

Good luck!

This, and also like what happened to Becca Mills recently, how are they going to handle it in the future if someone files a fraudulent DMCA notice against an author? That was a nightmare and I can see how more scam artists might try that in the future if they think it might work.

Basically, what steps is Amazon/KDP taking to ensure that authors' rights are better protected against scammers and pirates?

I too believe its a rep introduction. Sounds v similar to the email I got before 'the call'  :D

That's what my email said, too. And the person doesn't say anything like, "I'm your rep." But you end up with somebody you can email all the same. (However, they rep a LOT of people. It's not a super-special-snowflake deal. It's just a little extra love at times, which is nice.)
