Killing off a pen name - the evidence is everywhere! :D

So I've decided my pen name needs to die. Alas, he had a good run. Well, that's really a lie. He actually had a lousy run, but I learned a lot from it and I'm taking the time to retool everything about those books and relaunch them with those lessons thusly learned.

That in of itself is easy enough. What I'm finding is the tough part is wiping him out of existence. For a brand I didn't really promote, he certainly managed to weasel his way into all sorts of nooks and crannies on my various sites, social media, blogs, other websites etc. I guess that's the osmosis benefit of being out in the wild long enough. It's like every time I think I've got it all, I click on something and see his name there.

So take this to heart.  If you're going to commit pseudocide, be sure to plan your dark deed in advance lest you leave a trail of clues that any armchair Sherlock can follow.  :D

I've also found I joined websites I have forgotten about. I keep finding old covers and blurbs all over the place!  ::)

"pseudocide" -- I love this! It gives me all kinds of ideas for a new story.

I have one pen name that is in no way attached to me, so if she bombs I can just kick her to the curb and walk away. Cold as ice. I can see the conversation now...

"I thought you loved me!" she cried, her cheap drugstore mascara running down her face.
I had cared for her once, a long time ago. But she proved just how little I could trust her when she started to let her rankings go. I could no longer see past the obese number she carried. She disgusted me. I couldn't let my fond memories of when our love was new soften my heart or I would take her back. She had to believe it was over for good. It was the only way out. I've always been a sucker for a damsel in distress.

HAH!
I have three pen names. I found it gets confusing and you really have to double check the mailing list link to make sure you aren't sending out a new release to the wrong readers. I especially have to be careful since two write erotica and one writes thrillers and women's fic. That would be bad. I also find that since people refer to you by the persona you create, being called so many names feels weird. Maybe I will commit murder sometime in the future before I go crazy.
I'm about to murder a series protagonist under one penname and resurrect him under another in a very different genre just because I like the guy.  If he leaves trace evidence behind to amuse readers, I'm happy.
Oh man, I'm also about to murder my first pen name. It's no longer useful due to my writing going in a different direction than what I intended for that particular name.

I think I'll just push it off a cliff and call it a day.  :p
