So this has happened to me a few times now - when reading a book, it will suddenly flash to the Amazon.com screen, then end up at the home screen.  It happened twice when I first received my Kindle 2, and I thought I had done something to cause it as I was adjusting from KK to K2.  But last night, while reading, it happened again.  When it went back to the home screen, the book I was reading was not listed first, and my place in the book was lost. It was even on a different font size than I had been using.

Anyone else experiencing anything like this?

I had an issue with a particular book not being able to open and it's something about the data in the book itself. I was getting a Java error that I reported to Amazon and they're working on it. Does it happen on the same book or different ones?

Yes, it happened to me twice yesterday. I was riding in the car -- long trip -- and reading the New York Times. This is probably the longest I had read at one sitting with the K2 since I received it. Two times -- in fairly quick succession -- it blinked, reset and came back to the home screen. The first time, when I went back to the New York Times, it plopped me at an article that I had finished much earlier. The second time I was on the home screen and I just came back to the home screen.

dcom,

Did you try deleting kbook and redownloading? It's never happened to me, just a suggestion.

Happened to me as well.  Yesterday, I set the K2 down for a few minutes while in the middle of a book and when I returned to it, the home screen was up.  Thought I was losing it, because I didn't remember hitting the "home" button. :D  Later that night, when I went to continue reading the book, it had reset to a much earlier location.

Yes, it's happened to me as well. It happened all the time on my K1 too.

The only thing with the K1, I knew it was coming when my page froze and the little silver bar began to move and go up. I knew the sign, so I could look real quick to see what my location # was. With the K2, I don't get that warning anymore. The upside is it recovers much, much faster.

It has also crashed while using the Web Browser...Again, a common occurrence on the K1 and the reset time is much quicker.

Well, according to CS this should not be happening - and said it sounds like an incomplete software download.  But I think CS is still trying to figure out how to troubleshoot - they had me restore it factory settings, but never asked about my software version before or after.  Once it was restored,  I think the perfectly nice gentleman in CS said "well, I don't know, so I'll just send you another one"

They are sending you another one? Just for a random reset?

Sorry, forgot to mention that it would not reset using the power switch, had to manually reset through settings.  Then once it reset, it was frozen on the screen saver.  This has happened a few times too.

According to CS, it should not reset itself in this way - or be frozen.  My k1 never did this either.  (oh, I also had significant screen ghosting that was only occasionally resolved by using Alt+G, really fun to see that outline of Oscar haunting  your home screen!)

Do you experienced users find the reset/freezing to be normal? I only had my K1 for a few months but never had it freeze or reset on me.

Tracey, my K1, which I have only had since December, froze really often.. I got so tired of doing hard resets (and it started the first day I had it).. it sort of settled down and then got worse and I called CS and they basically punted.. told me that it must be because the battery was low (which simply isn't true, since I kept it charged up nightly) and his suggestion was "if it does it again, plug it in while you reset"..  then he admitted I might not BE near the charger, but if I was.. \

Anyway, of course since I have the K2, not using the K1 much so no resets lately.  They assured me that it was and would be covered under warranty, even if I transfer it, and they noted it on my account.

K2 -- yes, I've had a few, usually while using the browser or on the amazon site, or reading the daily blog.

Also notice that when I turn on whispernet and then tell it to sync/download, it has been taking longer than expected andthen it will blink blank and then have to re-fill in the list of items.

But it worse fine otherwise.

But I haven't had to use the power switch and reset.

So far the only reset I had was when using the Experimental Browser in advanced mode (with javascript enabled) ... I just chalked that one up to using an experimental mode inside an experimental feature, but if I have time I think I'll try seeing if I run into any problems staying in basic browsing mode on strictly text/mobile optimized sites to see if there is any relationship to browsing and restarts.

As far as non-browser functions, I haven't had any issues yet. *knock on wood* I downloaded about 70 books from my account from the previous device, started some 14-day trials for a few newspapers and magazines (some for my own evaulation, but others to use for a demo for a few coworkers that are interested in it.) I've also added a number of public domain books from various sources or converted from PDF that I had on my PC ... all of this was done in a short period of time and I didn't have any restarts. A few times it would get a bit slow, but with the amount of data being downloaded while I was either reading or managing content explains the slowdowns, that is probably the only time it will ever go through that much workload in a short period of time. But it's still in the early days of the K2, so I guess we'll see over time if anything changes. (BTW - in case it matters, mine hasn't gotten the 2.0.1 update.)
