kindle and the treadmill

I use my kindle when I work-out everyday on the treadmill. My issue has been that the treadmill I am walking/running on dies about halfway through my work-out. I use a variety of the treadmills and it almost always happens. Anyone else have this problem? Wondering if its me or the kindle that kills it.

I was also linked to a thread here about the treadmill killing the kindle. Should I stop using it on the treadmill?

Does anyone use theirs while working out?

Who that's really weird. I've used mine both on ellipticals and treadmills (don't remember the brand/type names, sorry) and I've never had any sort of problem.

If you're working out at a gym, perhaps it's something you could ask the employees about?

Let us know what you find out!

One way to know if it's your Kindle that's killing the treadmill...do a workout sans Kindle once, and see if it still dies halfway through your workout.

I read on my Kindle when I'm on my treadmill and have never had this happen.

Any device like a Kindle is designed with two criteria:

1.  It must not cause harmful interference.

2.  It must accept all interference from other equipment, harmful or not.

Basically anything with a wireless signal must be designed like this (as per FCC rules) so that it doesn't interfere with aircraft communication and navigation equipment.

So it's almost certainly a coincidence.  Maybe your gym needs to upgrade its equipment?

Probably the treadmill is not properly adjusted/maintained. I regularly 'break' a couple of the ones at the fitness center I go to, but at other facilities I've never had that problem (using essentially the same equipment). I try to avoid those particular ones when possible.

Happened again today....talked to the maintenance guy and he thinks its interference with the kindle. I think its just the old machines. I'll be working out at the other branches from now on (hasn't happened at the other 2 branches I use)

Unless you read with the wireless on (and even then) I seriously doubt it. When you say "branches" is this a YMCA? If so, then there is your answer... that one is just not as well maintained...

It's much more likely that they are improperly maintained and that they are overheating and shuting down. I seriously doubt the Kindle could interfere with any function in a treadmill. Have you tried running without the Kindle near by? I'd just like to know what the guys excuse would be when it shuts down without the Kindle!

I absolutely will NOT put my Kindle and my treadmill together again! I use iFit Nordic. I  had the Kindle on the book reader and I was reading/walking away. When I lifted the Kindle off the treadmill, it immediately moved to screen saver. (I wasn't anywhere near the screensaver button, and I had turned a page, so it wasn't sleep mode.) The Kindle would not restart. I ended up having to call Amazon (who were great) and we had to completely reset the Kindle. It was not fun. I didn't have too many books then, so it wasn't as bad as the next time when I loaded Calibre and the Kindle froze up.

I won't mix the two ever again even if it was a fluke, but I don't think it was.

Sometimes my Mio watch and Treadmill fight.
