It's not highlighted on the Amazon product pages, but early reviewers of Kindle note that the device can be used as a simple web browser.

CrunchGear notes that it works better with sites that have a mobile format.

What's amazing is that:

- the web browsing is evidently free of charge (the service is provided through Amazon's WhisperNet service)

- the web browsing does not require that you be in range of a wireless hot spot. Rather, it uses the same internet connectivity that cell phone web browsing uses.

Some people might look at this as a real justification to the price of Kindle. No web charge? No wireless hot spot?
Heck, you could cancel the internet in your own home if you only need it for simple purposes. A good price cut there.
