Now don't get excited. I'm not talking about buying $5 book reviews. I have actually used some decent fiverr gigs for typography, videos for Youtube, filling out a bunch of free promo day forms,  etc. Most of them cost more than $5 because you have to add the extras to really get a valuable service, but I've been fairly satisfied.

Is it beyond the TOS of this forum to mention some gigs that aren't awful?

I can't see why it would be. I mean, you're recommending some services you've used successfully, not plugging something you'll profit from, right? I, for one, would appreciate knowing what's out there on Fiverr that could be useful. My current sense of the site is that it's a mass of sketchiness, with worthwhile things sprinkled through that are just too difficult to find ... so I don't bother.

Well, for example, I had a book trailer made. It ended up costing about $20 after I paid for extras, but still seemed reasonable as I have no experience in making videos - though I'm sure my high school age kid could do it if I could catch him.

I'm not saying it was Zeus's gift to videos, but it seemed to get the point across. I supplied the pics and an outline of the script - so the person basically just made it into a movie and added some copyright free music.

I guess I try to look for gigs that seem to have good ratings already, or especially from those who have been around for awhile. I had one weird experience, but mostly it was ok.

I like ones with blog talk radio interviews. ANd there are fun videos you theoretically could get. I like ones with stop motion animation. If I ever have a book that fits that idea, I'd so use it.

There's definitely things there to buy that are actually on the level.
