Does anyone have a decent (English) copy? And if so  - where did you get it?

I downloaded a free one a few weeks ago and moved it to bast.. and it was awful formatting. it wasn't even titled correctly - tilled showed sup something similiar to "Look in the heading for important information). I also had the paragraph code shown for new paragraphs.

Freekindlebooks.org has one.  I downloaded it in curiousity, it has a fully linked table of contents, the first few pages of the first book look good to me.  Only downside is that you have to go through about 6 pages of stupid pictures of the books, the cover and the frontispiece before you get to the TOC, and they are very slow to change pages on.  According to the pictures, the translation is by Isabel F. Hapgood from 1887.  Does that help?

Now how do I delete this monster?

You should be able to go to Content Manager to delete it. Click on your scroll button when it's at the bottom of the scroll bar and you should see Content Manger on the menu. Select it, find Les Miserables, click on it which will put an "x" in the little box to the right. Make sure that's the only item with an x (unless you want to delete more), then click again on the bottom menu and select Remove selected items.

Strangely enough, searching for "Les Miserables" on that site doesn't work.

I just bought the Complete Works of Victor Hugo from Kindle store...

the whole ebook contains over 478,000 location pages!!!

Les Miserables is over over 38,000 location pages and also includes French version...I usually try to read at least 1,000 location pages per day, so this will take me over a month to read...

I got the Hapgood translation (with illustrations) from Mobileread, and it has a functional TOC and appears to have no formatting issues.

I've tried to stay away from the free Kindle books for the classics available from the Guttenberg Project...

I downloaded all the free Dickens novels a couple years ago and the formatting was poor and most of them you can't access directly to a chapter...

Yes. Go to Manage Your Kindle and find the book. There's an option 'drop down' menu to the right and one of them should be to delete the book. You'll get warned once or twice that if you do it, you can never get it back without re-purchasing it.

Ann, I followed your directions above...

I deleted items from Manage Your Kindle on Amazon.com, books are gone from Ipad mini on Kindle app...

books are still in library on Kindle Paperwhite, any suggestions to get them out of device

Delete them?

Seriously -- the usual way. . .delete them from the device.

If you mean you still seem them listed in the cloud, do a sync and check and they should go away as they're now no longer in your account.

This is most strange!
I downloaded a copy from Amazon UK and has no issues (other than the plot is different to the movie, but that's a different story *see what I did there?*)
