I had a thought when reading through another thread and wondered what some of your experiences were. When you do giveaways, do you use email attachments, Smashwords codes, or a download link? Do you have better success with one or another?

My concern I'd done readers may not want to get a Smashwords account, some may not know how to manually sideload an eBook if using Smashwords or emails, but I know some devices will also pick up downloaded files from the net or emails and simply know what to do with them. Just trying to simplify it for the reader, especially for those who don't want to mess with Smashwords if they've never used or heard of them. Thoughts?

The first time I did a LT giveaway, I used SW codes. And yes, some people didn't want to open an account. But many who did left a review on SW. The last LT giveaway I did, I emailed attachments. No complaints but also not as many reviews.

I'm considering doing an email attachment with provided links to a public folder on Dropbox. That way there's a download link and an attachment they can download or forward to their Kindle Cloud. I'd prefer Smashwords but I know a lot of people who haven't ever heard of it and they're all the type that hate opening an account for a single-use situation.

I prefer to do paperback copy giveaways.  A digital copy of a book can get lost in the vast universe of cyberspace (or at least the hard drive of their ereader), never to be seen again by the recipient.  A physical copy of a book will take up space on a bookshelf somewhere where the recipient and guests in their home will see it from time to time over the years.
