My friend Beth Langston wrote an excellent article on accessibility of books for print-disabled readers, including information on what steps we as authors can take to ensure accessbility.
Of note: Some electronic formats are more accessible than others. ePUB, for instance, works well for both sighted and disabled readers. The international committee that supports the ePUB standard works hard to include features that all readers will enjoy. Anecdotally, all of my print-disabled friends say that iBOOKs remain their top choice because Apple has shown a consistent commitment to meet (or exceed) their expectations.
