I was taking a run through some titles in my favored genres today. I like to look at covers, pricing, blurbs, you know, see how people are positioning themselves. Some months I've actually run numbers on the top 100 bestsellers and top 100 popularity lists in my genres, put the info into a spreadsheet so I could aggregate pricing, publishers, and so on.
And today I noticed something I've never noticed before. What used to be "popularity" in the list, the default you see in a category, is now labeled "New and Popular". I assume this is an attempt to keep George RR Martin from dominating every sci fi and fantasy list for the rest of time. But I'm sure they're playing with the algorithms again.
Anyone have an insight into what's changed?
