Just finished Live by Night by Dennis Lehane. Bootleggers and gangsters in the roaring 20s. It was really good and makes my list of 'Greatest Gangster Books Ever.' I would put it third place on that list, right behind The Godfather and Prince of Thieves (which was made into the movie The Town).

Thanks for bringing this up. Sounds like something I may be interested in. I'll probably check it out now

Based on the thread title, I thought it might be about a gangster doing good things! :)

What did you like about the novel to put it third on your list?
What I liked most was the setting. This novel really gets after the roaring 20s. Tommy guns, flappers, tin lizzies, etc. And it takes some unexpected turns. By the middle, I was really into all the characters and when all the gangster violence got going I was riveted.
