Looking for Artist/Designer for E-Book Covers -- Possible Long Term Work

Hello,

I am an author who needs to find a trustworthy and competent individual who can design good looking E-Book covers for fiction novels -- at a reasonable price. My editor and myself have not had much success with fivver, because it is very difficult to communicate with the designers there. We are looking for someone we can actually talk to on Skype or the telephone.

The covers we need don't have to be spectacular. We do NOT want someone to spend days on a cover for the money we are willing to pay. Basically, we need someone who can choose some good stock photos, slap them together, add a title, add the authors name, do perhaps a minimum of additional work to make it look *decent*, and be done. Basically, I don't think it would take a tremendous amount of labor for a professional to do what we need done.

For the record, we are willing to pay more than five dollars. However, since we are not generating a tremendous amount of revenue at this time we cannot pay large sums for single covers. Hundreds of dollars per cover is out of the question.

Here are a few more details.

-- We want to respect copywrite laws so any images must be legally obtained.
-- We will need a new cover approximately every week, or at most two.
-- We need a real person to talk to and not just an email address.

Also, we will need to see a portfolio of your previous work.

If anyone on here can help it would be tremendously appreciated.

Thank you.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

I would really appreciate any advice that anyone can give. My writing is at a standstill because we do not have a decent cover for my latest novel.
There are a number of good designers with threads here. I've used Littera Book Designs, ebookindiecovers, CC's Designs, LFD Designs for Authors, and Phycel, all of whom are awesome. People seem to think highly of humblenations (Go On Write), too. All of them have portfolios on line, so you can see what genres they handle and whether or not you like their work.

I've never communicated with any of them by Skype or phone, though, and have no idea if any of them would do this. It hardly seems necessary in today's world *shrugs*.
You might get more responses if you give us a bit of info. A ballpark figure for what you want to pay per cover would be good. Also, what genre? Some genres are a lot easier to find stock for than others.
Lets say forty to fifty dollars a cover and the genres would mostly be horror/scifi/fantasy.
I used Robin Ludwig Designs for my Letters to Bert book (that one was pretty basic). You can look at others she's done on her website:

I'm not sure how much she'll do over the phone but you could ask -- my communication was all by email. She asks that you do some of the legwork yourself i.e. going to stock photos and picking some out so that you can send her in the proper direction. Maybe they all do that? I'm not sure. It took a couple of tries for me to get what I wanted but I'm happy with the final result. Hope this helps...

I'd throw my name in for some steady work, but forty to fifty bucks isn't enough to make me talk on the phone (that's not a joke, either - I loathe talking on the phone). Good luck.
I have a friend who is doing work on book covers at the moment.

this is his site http://www.dna-designs.co.uk/

just drop him an email from the contact link
I think I found someone. Thanks for all the help.
If the person you found doesn't pan out, I cannot say enough good things about Torrie Cooney. Very good prices, responsive and will work with you until you get it right. Absolutely awesome.

You're kidding, right? SF/fantasy has some of the highest quality cover expectations of any genre... Usually needs to be illustrated to go over well with genre fans... Definitely not a stock photo genre.

Horror is a bit more forgiving, low budget covers can do okay.

So... You're kidding, right?

Elaina at For the Muse Designs (http://www.forthemusedesign.com) designed mine (the princess book in my sig, not the Chinese ones). From her portfolio, she does sci-fi and fantasy, but I'm sure she can also do horror if you want. Her rates are very reasonable, and a pleasure to work with. She found the stock images for me and we went through three or four versions before finalizing it. However, I don't think she works on the phone either. If you haven't found someone, you might want to give her a try :)

I love her, she's such a joy to work with. She made the Hegira and Ineluctable Fate covers.
