Hi all. I'm pretty new to Kindle and am looking for something basically protective for my Kindle...screen and unit...and a light (have to say that I am disappointed in the readability of my latest gen. Kindle but am adapting. Adjustable backlighting would be a great feature.).

I want the lightest combo possible...a basic screen protector, and then a very THIN, but tactile, cover that reduces the slickness/slipperiness of the Kindle. Like an iSkin for a smartphone. Usually gel-like.

And I like the look of the Verso clip-on light. It looks lightweight and like it lights the entire screen. What are your favorites or experiences?

Please let me know what is working for you! I know there are separate screen protectors out there but am hoping to find one with a thin, gel-type cover.

BTW, I really just want a solid color, like turquoise or royal or gray or even black...prefer no designs but I'm not totally against that.

On Amazon, there is a case made by Dura Gadget.  It doesn't have a screen protector, but it does protect your Kindle when closed.  I really haven't heard any horror stories about the screen being damaged while reading.  It comes in a few colors, and is very light weight.  I have the red, and have been completely satisfied with it.  I also purchased a cheap light at Walmart.  For just starting out, this might be something you would be happy with.  Not a lot of expense.

Are you looking for a case? Or some sort of thin stretchy silicone skin to slip over the device?

I don't use a screen protector on my Kindle.
I'm looking for a thin stretchy silicone skin....yes that's a good description...or similar. More for something less slick to handle than protection.

And I'd like a screen protector because when commuting, it may get stuffed into bags, purse, etc and I'd like to keep the screen from being scratched. That said, I dont know what it does to the quality of the contrast and readability tho.

And I want very lightweight and low bulk. So I guess I want it all! lol

Check out the M-Skin by M-Edge Accessories...

It is an all over silicone skin with a screen protector flap. Allows for complete use of the Kindle without removing the skin. It even works with our e-Luminator booklights...

What is the big flap at the top? This product looks a bit bulkier than I'm hoping to find...I think I saw these at WalMart.

I will advocate for the Amazon Lighted Cover.  I have had several covers over the  years and these are just so wonderful.  For my Kindle 2, I had the M-Edge cover with their light and never got much use of the light.  Hated having to deal with batteries.  But with my lighted cover, I use it all the time.  I dont have to worry about running down a battery that will fill a land fill someplace or having my light go out.

Plus the color design of their cases are just beautiful with the graphite Kindle.  I have a pink and a black.

As a caution, you might want something a little more rigid for a cover.  There have been so many posts on the board about people damaging their screen.  I carry mine everywhere, always, so a soft cover just wont due for me.  It would get screen damage in my purse.

I wonder if you wouldn't be happier with something like the Latitude Jacket from M-edge that zips closed. It is lightweight but would still protect the screen and the rest of the device. They have a version with the corner straps and a molded mounting system.

The light fits with these but if you want to store the light inside the case you might like the Executive or the Catpital:

I'm liking this more now that I 'get it.' How hard is the Edge to put on and take off?
Pretty easy. You insert the Kindle through the screen opening and just stretch it around into place. There are step-by-step photos showing this on the product page (in the little photo gallery under the main product photo).

I did see the photos but didnt really know if it was difficult or not. I have the same (type) iSkins for my phone and my iTouch...one is brutal to put on, one is easy, but they go on the same way. Just has to do with minor size issues I'm sure.

The M-Skin takes about 3 seconds to put on or take off.  It weighs almost nothing and adds very little bulk.  I should know, I've purchased 3 of them already!  If it came in a kiwi green I would own a 4th one.  (Hint, hint Jackie  ;) ).

Thanks! How easily do you think it would go on over a Decal Girl skin?
