Update: 1300+ DLs on first day, only 200-ish so far today - bad sign or normal?

Hi,

Can I ask you where are you promoting the free promo?

How many hours in advance before midnight did you put your price at zero? Thinking about doing a free day but don't know how long it takes for a price change to update...

Tks

In addition to Twitter and Blog, I used http://authormarketingclub.com/members/submit-your-book/, which lets you submit your free books to the top sites all in one place. Easy. Some sites will want five days notice, while others will want at least two.

To set your own price to zero you must be enrolled in Kindle Select, which means your ebook must be exclusive to Amazon. Once you are in Select there is a button on your dashboard which allows you to set your free promo days in advance. Once you get to the date set Amazon automatically changes the price to free.

Update - finally broke into the top 100 in Paranormal Fantasy at 400 DLs! Hope that'll feed the momentum...
Wow that's great!

I'm at around 22 (for US) with my second novel on first day...did promoting but what can you do, it's the blurb/cover that's gotta attract people. Staying positive :)
Just saw your book on ereaderiq.com
Well done on your downloads - keep up the good work :)

I had a disastrous post-Christmas promo for my latest book.  Good thing there are more days in the KDP set-up.  Live and learn - it's not for my books to compete with the blockbusters!

I usually get a lot of downloads after I've gone to bed - but I'm in Europe so these are the evenng US & Can downloads.  It makes going online the morning after fun!

If that's 22 units and not the rank, sorry about that... but if the second novel is the one on the right in your sig, you really need a better cover - you can certainly get a more visually engaging one for 5 dollars on Fivver which is not a lot, or just buy a good stock photo (you can get them for the equivalent of $4, or even less although I'm sure I would consider the latter type 'good') and slap some text on it yourself... the one you have doesn't really look like it'll draw much attention, no offense.

If it's number 22 rank though that's awesome and shows people don't always judge a book by its cover! (Not sure which one you meant.)

Um... holy cow.

If I get to Top 100 Free I'll be in heaven.

Updated the title and OP... is this such a big dropoff business as usual on a second day of promo or a Sunday?

It can either go up or down. It usually just goes up if there's another big blog mention. Some blogs have a much bigger audience than others. ;D

I always tell myself that maybe the last person who gets a download at the very end will become a superfan. ;)
