Hey guys

So some time ago, I decided to check my book's bsr and position in the amazon category and I noticed it had gone from 400k to 200k (in book's not kindle) i checked after an hour or two and it had move to 118k and after 4 hours it was on 75k. I was excited thinking I must have made at least 6 sales from that book but on checking my dashboard, I only saw one sale...how can this be?

That kind of jump in BSR is typical, in my experience, of a book that has one or two sales in a day. Six sales in a day will bring your rank up to maybe 35000. This has been my experience, anyway, but it's also consistent the the BSR calculators I've used.

If your books are in Kindle Unlimited, a borrow counts toward the rank, although you won't see it.

I agree with the above. 75k is pretty good and, in my experience, is around three full sales. One sale will drop most of my books to around 125k. And if you're in KU, as mentioned ^ , you could get borrows or reads (delayed) and not even see it. Then it's nearly impossible to tell where your ranking is coming from.

Interestingly, one of my books selling daily 4-5 copies stays at 125k. It's almost as if the algos decide "well, the book is doing well so we don't need to give it an extra push." Cause what's weird here is that if another one of my books sells one copy, that other book is down to 125k too.

My books are only four years old. Older books here might have more of a lag because the longer the book is on sale, the further it goes up the charts on Amazon.

Definitely in the same boat on that one. I have title still within 30 days of release that hovers around 115k despite a purchase or two a day and based on pages, about 3 full reads/day on KU. That being said I just checked it and it's moved to the mid 50k range. Must have had a sale shortly before the last calculation update!
