Name dropping: Here are some of my "also boughts." Who are yours?

It's really interesting to see who's buying your work and to learn what else they like. I write mysteries/thrillers for the most part, but I also do political humor and romantic comedy. Later this year I'm even going to do a western. So I hope my reader base will expand.

For now, here are some of my "also bought" names as provided by Amazon: Brad Thor, David Baldacci, Vince Flynn (no relation), Lee Child, Michael Lawson, Brett Battles, Alex Berenson, Brian Haig, Stephen Hunter, William Tyree, A.J. Tata, Joseph Finder, Barry Eisler, John Gilstrap, James W. Huston and Robert Crais.

All in all, not bad company.

I love looking at that feature. I write romance, so mine are Catherine Mann (who has long been my hero!), Lori Foster, Shannon Stacey (who just hit the NYTimes ebook list), Bella Andre, Marie Force, Nina Bruhns, Paula Graves, Dana Marton (the last three are big Harlequin Intrigue authors), Brenda Novak and Karen Rose (RITA winners), Dee Davis, Pamela Clare and Linda Howard!
Great thread! Now we can all share the vicarious glory of being on the same page as the literary elite!

My "also reads" include:

John Locke, Bob Mayer, J. Carson Black, Michael Wallace, Vincent Zandri, Joe Konrath, Brad Thor, Lee Child, Vince Flynn, Stephen Hunter, Ken Follett, Clive Cussler, Mark Greaney, Alex Berenson, Gary Ponzo, James Rollins, Steve Berry, Heather Graham, Joseph Finder, M.H. Sargent, John Gilstrap, Brett Battles, Amanda Quick, Lisa Gardner, Michael Walsh, Dennis Lehane, and David Baldacci.

Yeah. I can see it.... My thriller fits right in with all these authors. Why, just ask my wife...Morgan Fairchild....

Most of my Also Boughts are indie titles, but I do have Brent Weeks, George R.R. Martin, Brandon Sanderson, Peter V. Brett, Patrick Rothfuss, and Joe Abercrombie in the list.

When MY book shows up on THEIR Also Boughts, then I will have arrived!

Edit: Oh wow! My book's on page 6 of Also Boughts for A Dance with Dragons! WOOT! ;D
The more important aspect of this is whose pages do YOU show up on? For instance Nathan Lowell shows up on Jack McDevitt's page.

And Jack Campbell's

And Michael J. Sullivan on Robert V.S. Redick's book pages.

Robin: You're right, that is important. How do you find out whose pages you appear on? Hey! Just now, my wife tells me that five of my titles are on Vince Flynn's "Targets of Deception" page. But how can I find other connections?

kcmay: About a hundred years ago, or well back in the 20th century anyway, I was at a writers' conference at Indiana University and talked to George R.R. Martin — Roger Zelazny, too.

Robert: So you met Morgan in smoky bar with a blues quartet playing softly in the background, right?

MJ: Always a kick to see there aren't so many degrees of separation between you and your idols.

Well, Robin beat me to it, as usual.  Having also boughts is GREAT, but man, I want to be on a big name also bought list. :)
Okay, I just had a thought, being a mystery writer and all. It might not be a bad idea to visit the pages of your also boughts and see if your work appears on their pages. Ought to be some crossover, I'd think.
Happily, HUNTER has shown up on the "also bought" page for John Locke's How I Sold 1 Million Ebooks in 5 Months. I'm going to check other authors' pages.

The links I mentioned are "author by author" not "book by book" so all books by a particular author will show the same 17 authors as cross-sellers even if that particular book has not been boght by others.

To find them ou just have to "hunt around". Michael's numbers are way down at the moment as we are discontining his books as the Orbit release approaches. But when he was selling well he was 30+ pages of people liek Joe Abercrombie, Patrick Rothfuss, Brent Weeks, and the like.

The listings that I showed are on "books only" pages (not kindles) or on author pages.
I'm in the impressive company of J. Carson Black, Kathy Reichs, and Joe Konrath.

If I ever appear on their also-boughts, I'll stand up and cheer!
My big match is with fantasy author Sara Douglass.

She provided a cover quote for The Fall of Ossard, so I can see why a link has built up.

My other matches have been Michael J Sullivan, Patrick Rothfuss, Brent Weeks and Brandon Sanderson.

I look at this a lot myself. I was totally excited the other day when I noticed I was on the first page of Simone Elkeles for her huge hit Perfect Chemistry. I'm on the second now, but I'll take it! Other authors I've had the honor to be in company with are Jennifer Echols, Sarah Dessen, Maria Rachel Hooley, Tammara Webber, and another indie who is HUGE right now with her hit, Beautiful Disaster, Jamie McGuire. LOVED that book btw!

I TOTALLY credit the also boughts for my sales. It wasn't until I started appearing on all the also boughts of the HOT YA books that my sales just took off and I literally do NOTHING now to market other than participate in a few discussions here and there. I've all but abandoned my twitter except for the occasional random comment that has nothing to do with my books. Also boughts can do wonders for your sales. Now HOW do you get on other hot books also boughts front pages is the million dollar question. If anyone can figure it out let me know.  :-\  I'd LOVE to get Always Been Mine on all of Lori Fosters first pages!.

Mostly other indie authors: Simon Wood, Michael Prescott, Rick Murcer, J. Carson Black, JA Konrath and Pat Gragg.
You'll recognize these names if you are into horses at all:
Sally Swift, Buck Brannaman, Ray Hunt, and Temple Grandin.
"Hunting around" is apt work for a mystery writer. Thanks, Robin.

Growing up, I didn't know any other family with the name of Flynn. Now, I'm very lucky to have my surname. There's a bounty of Flynns writing these days. Besides Vince, of course, there's also Gillian, Joyee, John T., and even Raymond, the former mayor of Boston. Any time someone searches for one of them, I'm likely to be found nearby.

Thanks, Dad.
I think they must change quite frequently as I recently found But Can You Drink The Water? as an also bought on one of Erma Bomeck's books, but can't find it today :(

Elizabeth - you were one of the first on both of my novel's "Also Boughts." I've been aspiring to get on yours! Haven't yet... but one day :)
On Amazon my also boughts are the likes of John Locke, Vincent Zandri and James Grady. Over at B&N I'm more of a hit with the Clive Cussler crowd.
I also like seeing the "Frequently Bought Together." On my book today, it says Customers buy this book with The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid: A Memoir by Bill Bryson.
