My second book is almost ready to release. Probably in the next few days. I'm planning to drop the price on the first book for a short promotion once the second book is out. How do you handle the time lag between when you input the price change and when it actually shows up? Is there a way to do it so that all the venues go on sale at roughly the same time? Or is that beyond possible?

I'm direct with Amazon/nook/kobo, so those will be faster (I hope). The one I'm worried about is SW. Should I just go ahead and change the price now, knowing it will take weeks for it show up everywhere?

Any tips or ideas appreciated!

My advise is dependent upon how well book one is selling right now.  If it's selling at an acceptable level, then I would not change anything.  If you want to boost sales of book one in advance, I would drop the price now and start promoting the price drop in conjunction with the upcoming release.  You're right, it can take time for price changes to filter through if you're using Smashwords or similar website, thus I would change sooner rather than later.  You will want to be able to focus on the new book, not stressing over why it's taking so long for book one's price to change.

When I launched my third book, I lowered the price of book one to 99c a little more than a month in advance.  Sales doubled for book one and I returned it to full price two weeks after book three launched.  I lost a bit of revenue with the first book, but I feel that I made up for it in sales with book two and three.
