Thank you so much everyone for your feedback! I really appreciate it. And thanks, Craig, for shrinking the covers down. I think the way it gets shrunk down in KB makes thumbnails with thinner fonts pixelate. When I shrink it down in any program I have on my computer, it doesn't do that.
The font isn't a grungey font, it's supposed to look old and historical. However, I can see why it would look a little grungey when blown up full size. I probably should look for a different font, but it's hard to find a good historical-looking font that doesn't disappear in thumbnail. I'll keep looking.
Marsha--don't worry about being blunt...that's what I asked for. As long as someone is politely blunt, I'm fine with that. (And you were. Well, mostly...I cried a little when you said "sloppy"
jk)
Les-- I don't really see the similarity to Dara's cover, other than the fact that they both have historical dresses on the front (seems to be a big thing in historicals lately). I do like that cover though, especially the way she did the bar.
Marsha-- I agree, I like the bar. I wanted to do one, but couldn't think of a way to do it that I like. I'm not terribly creative. But seeing that pic, it is giving me some ideas.
T.J.- Actually, it isn't erotica. I said "sexy" to distinguish it from the tamer Regencies. There are "open door" sex scenes, but it isn't enough to be erotica, or even erotic romance. I'd like to have something with the dress falling off her shoulder, but being restricted to public domain historical paintings, the only pics like that are boudoir types, as you mentioned, and that would be all wrong for the character and the story. The best I could do was try to make the focus the bare shoulder and (as my husband pointed out) the figure's non-existent cleavage.
Art-- Did I do the painting? I wish! LOL No, it's a Regency-era painting. But the artist's skill is amazing, with the light playing off the silk.
Well, I'm off to do more messing around with the cover. I appreciate all the help. I really want this cover to pop. I love Courtney Milan's cover...it's exactly what I wanted to do for a story someday, and it stands out fabulously. A red dress wouldn't be appropriate to my current WIP, but the blue dress I picked is perfect and stands out pretty well, I think. Just need to get a handle on the font situation.
