I have been unable to figure out how to get email notification sounds on my Fire HD9.  i went to settings and there is only one place to change sounds i changed it and can hear the preview but it never goes off for anything. i looked in the email app and there is nothing in there about sounds.

My speakers work fine.  Am I doing something wrong?

EDITED TO ADD: Found it! Seems notification sound for mail is off by default. You have to go to settings, applications, notification sounds. Whew.

Edited again: I turned notification sounds for email on but it still does not work .

cleee,

I'm not sure what to tell you.  I get a little chirp when I get new mail.  You're sure the "on" is underlined in orange, right?

And make sure your volume is turned up. . . . I turn mine down if I'm putting id down near me at night and then sometimes forget to turn it back up the next morning and wonder why I've not heard it chirping at me. ::)

See THAT'S an app I'd like -- something that knows what time it is and adjusts such settings for you. There's such a thing built into my RAZR phone but I haven't found anything like it for the Fire. :( 'Course, the phone one is mostly to make it not ring, but still.

Thanks for the replies. The On is underlined and the volume is at the max. I am able to hear the Notification sounds in the Sounds preference when I change from one to another so the volume is up and working.

After I turned on the notifications in Email, I sent myself a few messages and got no sound. Restarting the device didn't help. Very odd problem. I'll have to see if there's another email client I can download and see if that works.

I quickly browsed the app store on the Kindle last night for email client and I could SWEAR that one of the reviews of a free one said it had the convenience of the user being able to turn off sound notification during a particular time of day or night. I am almost positive that I read that. I will check when I get home and post the name of the program if I find it.
